Cochin Thread!!!

I've never heard of self blue here - so Tiki244 - you are right on that. Lavender is not a popular colour here either. Maybe that is why I say that. I have seen Lavender silkies in show and it was clearly written "LAVENDER" and not "Self Blue"
Also everyone I know on the Ameraucana thread says Lavender and not self blue either. This is the only thread I've seen them call it self blue

You are correct. I try to educate instead of perpetuating the misinformation. The only bird I can think of that is actually described in the standard with the word Lavender is the Lavender Guinea. I do not doubt that silkie people don't read the standard and enter their birds under the correct given name for the variety. They were accepted into the Standard as Self Blue.

Quote: but does the APA rule in Canada? since that is where the show was, it makes me wonder what standards they use.

It is my understanding that the APA and ABA are the governing bodies for exhibiting poultry in Canda, so the Standards are the same for all of North America.

I am no expert so I can only tell you what my experience has been. I noticed a redness on my roosters legs last year that went from the feet (as you pioctured) up the back of the legs. I posted on Emergencies and people told me it was just hormones. And I never noticed any other problems with it. Hope this helps.

This is correct, it is quite normal on roosters.

Bo Garrett in OK or Rudy Troxel in IN. Both are BYC members and have beautiful birds.

Kennedys Cochins in KY also lists LF Partridge, but I don't remember ever seeing any photos of them.

You can also check the Member Links page on the Cochins International website. Also check on the Show Results and Variety Hhotos pages for more leads. www.CochinsInt.com

I have all of my partridge sold to a lady in northern Oklahoma. I realized I had too many varieties and needed to reduce the flock and the partridge were the first on the block. The Buffs have also found a new home as well.

Blessings,

Bo

I'm planning on heading to the Lucasville show in 2 weeks... anyone planning on being there with any cochins? looking for gold laced bantams, reds, and anything else that strikes me at the moment.

NOT looking for mille fleur tho, i'm good there. waiting on 3 pullets to start laying and 2 hens to start laying AGAIN...

and i'm debating on keeping the self blue line going. I like her, but i think the silver laced are higher on my list right now.

so I think my cochins are going to be black, laced, mille fleur and BBS to be sure. i've got some eggs on the way so we'll see what hatches and develops well (silver laced, partridge, red, blue/splash and buff barred).
