I am/was having the same issues male Columbians getting brassy. I was reading somewhere on a poultry site where a man described how he got most of the brassy out in 3 generations. He commented that if they were going to turn color he was putting them outside. Kept back the whitest ones for 3 generations and eliminated much of the color issue. I did that this year and only kept 2 males 1 of which I gave to Annamay to help her flock. I ler them out everyday all summer and culled the worst/yellowest. I will tell you more in a few years if it works on Columbian Cochins.

Casey I noticed you said that you are keeping only 2 pullets of the white variety. This makes me think I had better do some more thinning out of mine.
To give you an idea, I hatched around 75 birds this year. 40 being White, and I am only keeping 6 of them, a smooth trio and a frizzle trio. I dont have the time, money, or space to keep them all, so I have to keep what is best for me. And this Spring I am starting a project with the Reds, and I need room for that as well. And speaking of, I hatched out 16 Reds, and it looks like I am only keeping 4, 2 pairs.

This is a Blue Mottled pullet I am thinking of keeping to add to my breeding stock of Splash. I plan to breed her to this new Splash cockerel I hatched out from my stock. Any opinions on their quality (as far as breeding & show)?

Amy:

Her white feathers look yellow b/c she is dirty & needs a bath. :/

Hey All,

just a quick update. Out of five eggs only one didnt hatch, 2 from the barred self blue frizzle project hatched, and one black, and one from a black frizzle roo. This is my first hatch, and looking at the chicks today, the two self blue and one of the black chicks look frizzled to me. Is this just the way they feather in? Or are they frizzle? Excuse the poor quality of the pics.

The chicks in question are definetly Frizzles.
