I agree with cockerel too. I think I see a darker red bar across the wing and shiny little saddle feathers coming in.

Sorry, I’m not the one you’re asking. Welsummer are an autosexing breed but chicks tend to be difficult to sex. By 3 weeks old chest feathers should be coming in, pullets have salmon coloured feathers, cockerels black.

You can just see the cockerel’s black chest feathers coming in. The bird next to him is a pullet.

Sapphire Gems I have no idea as I’ve never heard of them before.

Thank you so much. I was concerned because the other Welsummer has a much smaller comb so I was certain it was a pullet. It's good to know this one is also a lovely lady.

Thank you. It's just surprising that he's so calm and the other cockerel (same age and breed) is so much larger and feisty. Little pumpkin isn't crowing yet but big ol Adam has been crowing for a while.

I have had cockerels that were calm as well, one actually prefers humans over other chickens and rides on my daughter horses neck.
