So, you are letting your daughter guilt you over how you spend your money - - -STOP IT NOW ! - - - If your daughter is nervy enough to say something - PLEASE - remind her that you guys didn't start out with money, you had to earn it and save it! She will need to do the same. It is wrong that the YOUTH look at where their parents are at 40 - 50 years old and think that at 20 years old they should have and are enitlted to what we have!

duc.gif
He#* NO - - They will have to WORK for it just like we did! NOTHING given FREE is ever appreciated. When you have to WORK and SWEAT for it, then you appreciate it and take care of it. Parents do a GREAT INJUSTICE by trying to supply all their children's wants when they are youngsters. It gives the children false expectations that everything they want will magically appear.

- - CHICKS, do you see similiar things with your job ? ?

I make my 13 years old work for EVERYTHING. They have to save, trade, shop for deals, etc. They have JOBs in the house that they have to do and they don't get paid for - - - JUST LIKE WE DO! Then they have EXTRA JOBS they can do to make money. My jobs aren't sweet jobs either -- - weed the garden, unload a trailer of horse manure, dig a trench, wash the cars, etc. I remind them constantly if they don't get good grades and go to college, these will be the only jobs they will be qualified for when they get older. . . Yes I know that I am tough on them, BUT so is LIFE.

OESDOG - - With the way your daughter treats you, It might be luckier if you lived FURTHER away

You know the saying "HEAR no evil, SEE no evil, Do no evil". If you were further away, you would NOT HEAR OR SEE EVIL . . . . . .

FLORIDA is pretty far away . . . .

Ok I am on my way!!!!!!!!!! - Only joking!!!!!!!
I am pretty worn out just now. - I was pleased when Dotty anounced that Mark was taking Jessica Monday, Tuesday and Wed this week. I thought great!!!!!! Then well they suddenly appeared here yesterday and stayed right over our mealtime! I didn;t give them anything just waited until they finally left!!!!!! Then apparently they are needing us again tomorrow. We have to take Jess to the Dr in the morning to get her Jabs but Mark needs to come too! Thats fine she needs her shots and he can't drive her there and there are no Buses that direction. But then Dotty says she is comming here in the afternoon?????????? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought I was getting three days off!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today DH and I just went back to bed - the poor Dogs never got walked again and they are badly missing our attention.

Your right about the working hard bit - DH and I started off with nothing but a camping table and two chairs!!!!! Ha ha!!!!!! We had a borrowed pull out bed that the springs stuck out of - I slept on it until I was 6 months gone with our eldest - then I really would have rather slept on the floor!!!!!! My daughter laughs at me because I had to hand wash all our clothes for years - the only washing machine we could afford had a mangle at the bottom and the DR wouldn;t let me use it as he said it would hurt the babies I was carrying! So I couldn;t do washing until DH came home and lifted the Mangle for me - it was easier to hand wash and catch the sunshine!!!!! I don;t think young folk have any idea of struggle and hard graft. - Though our kids always had work even as a youngster delivering papers etc. Now in out 40s / 50s we own our own home by the sea and everything in it!!!!! We worked hard for years and years to get this. DHs parents died young and were ill so couldn;t help us and my folks wouldn;t have given us the dirt under their nails - so we never ever asked!!!!!!

Thanks for the eye ball pecking !!!! Math ace -

Ahhh - yeah - math ace is overloading on the coffee again!!!! Glad you cleared up the flu jab at the feed store issue???? I was about to ask if my feed store did it too????

Well DH just did his good deed for the day. - HE went to the store to get buns or coffee!!!! A car rolled in behind him and the woman was slumped over the wheel. Love her she had a major stroke and has lost feeling down one side and all that - Lucky for her DH is retired Ambulance crew and there was also a Radiogropher in the store - they managed to get her breathing and the Ambulance came for her but it took 25 mins - The Hospital is a good way away I am not sure she will make it ??? Poor Dh - he thought he was retired but these things keep pooping up!!!!!!!

Rancher - the Queen looks fab!!!!!!!! - Pitty I can;t knit with circular needles and Dd wouldn;t want me to make them. I don;t think, as she wont put the bonnets I made already on the baby???

I would be GLOATING BIG TIME ! ! ! How come the others are tired of hearing it ? ?

WHAT are you gonna do with wood ? ?
So much potential, so little wood and time !

Our house came with an above ground pool with a very nice wood deck around it. We didn't want the pool, so Dh it out. Dh took the deck down and saved the wood. Now, he is using it to build us a GAZEBO !

I get so excited when I go to the home improvement stores and absolutley LOVE

OSEDOG - - How about this, Dh and I were married for over 2 years BEFORE we got a TV!
The youth of america would DIE if they had to go 2 years with TV or COMPUTER.

We had an OLD OLD JUNKY 1950's table for our kitchen table and our bed - - -NOT ANOTHER STICK OF FURNITURE for over a YEAR.

It was like the old sonny and Cher song - - I got you Babe. That was all we wanted - - EACH OTHER. IT was not about our status or material items. That time period was about us being together ! We had relatives who offered to buy our NEW furniture and we turned them down. We WANTED to do it ourselves!

We bought a washer and dryer FIRST - - took us 6 months to do that!
We bought a couch next - - - took us another year to do that !
We bought a dining room table after that - - - another 6 months.
LASTLY, we bought a TV and got an antennae.

We didn't get statelite or cable until the kids were born - - - 10 Years after we were married.
NEVER had a dishwasher until we moved into this house - - - 16 years after we were married!

Good Morning!
Oesdog and Math Ace, yes, I do see some of that here. Not all the kids are like that, but when they say to a teacher, "you GAVE me a B, why can't you just GIVE me an A?", they are quickly reminded that they "earned" the B, and that NOTHING is given to them. The teacher I work with was giving them quite the lecture on this topic yesterday, in fact. But there are also many that work hard, too - heck, one of our most ornery kids in her class owns and operates his own car detailing buisness! I must admit I had help on occasion, especially with college and a few catastrophies, but I would NEVER begrudge the money they spend on themselves. They have worked hard and my Mother has scimped and saved for them to have a good retirment (semi-retired, really), and if the want to go to Italy, buy a camper, whatever, GREAT! They used to bail out my youngest brother (literally, once) all the time with money, and they finally cut him off and forced him to grow up. Later he moved back in with them and they threw him out, and I know it was the hardest thing they ever did, but he was better off for it. Now if we could just get him to go back to school for something more fullfilling, I think he'd be happier.

You two accross the pond with your Cream Legbars - I would love one of those. Enjoy!

Rancher - that hat is SO CUTE - and so is the little one it's on! I need to take up knitting again.

Thanks for the site, Kaj, I'll check it out later. Right now I should get back to work. Gotta go introduce myself to the new nurse the school just hired full -time. It will be nice to have one around when my girls start having labor pains, or just to help teach some of the health facts about pregnancy.

Have a good one!

Well I guess I am the first up today!!!!!!!!

Loads of lovely milky hot coffee this morning!!!!! The weather here is pretty miserable and dark.
We were up again to Danny in the small hours. Thankfully he settled again and although he never went back to sleep he lay quietly listening to his music. I think he is having night seizures again. He seems to be very wet and dirty and needing everything changed. Not so easy when your stumbling about in the dark half asleep trying to stop him yelling so much he wakes everyone in a 3 mile radius!

That darn mouse is back in my bedroom again!!!! Last time it crawled up my arm and woke me up. Now its scurrying about in a drawer !!! Ahhhhhhh I will have to try to trap it or get the lazy fat old cat we have to DO SOMETHING CAT LIKE!!!!!! The only thing about the trap is I am likely to be half asleep trying to sort Danny and I will be the one to stand on the darn thing and break my toes!!!!!!!! -

Have to take Jessica to get stabbed this morning! Should be fun - NOT !!!!! Ha her daddy is comming so he need not look at me to comfort the child. I am going to drop him at the surgery and go do some shopping and then pick them up after!!!!!! HE HE! Then I am going to drop them home again TO THEIR HOUSE!!!!!!!!!
- Has that got your approval - Math ace???? After all we all did it didn;t we? Not sure why our Dd didn;t take the morning off college and take Jess herself??????
(Oh yeah its a mummy thing and she doesn;t want to be suzi homemaker!!!!) Sad really how a lot of young folk resent the basics of biulding a home and familly and a secure society? Something somewhere has gone badly wrong - why is it that some girls feel they will be "Less of a person" if they dedicate themselves to their family and home biulding????

I'm for the feed store today - but I ALSO NEED MY FLU JAB??? Wonder if I can get mine there too??? Save me the bother of going to the clinic next week???? - HE HE!
I am getting layers pellets for the girls. They have not laid eggs in weeks now. I am begining to get a bit worried. I should get mixed poultry grain too - Do I have to give them that as well all the time or can I just give them Layers and treats?????

Tartannik - Have you got that Legbar yet????????? I was looking at adds on the net and there was one here going free to a good home! Rooster though! - My Dd was laughing because my blue is a worthless roo!!!!! -

Got my own back though - because she was phoning the Tax office and they put her on hold. We then looked at the Parrot section(Mark likes them apparently!) - Dotty said mummy there ok if you know what they are going to say then she put on a silly freaky Parrot kind of voice and said - they could say
- I hate you all your all going to die!!!!!!!!!
At that very moment the woman at the Tax office came on the phone and all she heard was this weired freaky voice saying - I HATE YOU YOUR ALL GONNA DIE!!!
I was killing myself laughing! Poor woman must have thought it was a prank caller. I bet it will be used in training courses for how to deal with violent callers as the calls are recorded!!!!! ( Math ace - what was that you said about evil????)

Morning/Afternoon people,
New coffee, never had it: Harrar Horse - Strong, burnt bean after taste.
We had frost warnings last night, but nothing here. We haven't had the "killing" frost yet this year.

Math Ace: Everything is going to be cut into .75 - 1" slabs. The white oak, I might put some of it down for flooring ( random widths, tongue and grove), the rest into shop projects. The chestnut, stashed away for the rats weddings/grand kids etc, basically keeping it for our personal projects.

Our birds are molting at the moment, so the egg production is null(). I am feeding them the boiler mash and a mixture of sunflower seed and cracked corn. I am hoping ( it might be a dream) that the extra protein might help them along. A couple of them look as if a strong wind came along, they would be bald.

So everyone gets a flu shot?

I'm off to the mill today, siding for the Bean D'ville.

Enjoy the day

Kaj

Good Morning!

That is a funny story about the parrot imitation, Oesdog! I bet the tax worker didn't know what to think!

Kaj - that floor will be BEA-U-TI-FUL!
And yes, I got my flu shot. I work in the school system. I come into contact with too many people - half of the pregnant - not to get it.

Do you think my Leghorn will get upset if I sell some of her babies when they are 4 weeks - I will be having my chicken swap then. Other than Oesdog's Bertha, how long do the "mother" them usually? Or even if she does get upset, will she just forget how many she had and be happy with the ones she gets to keep?

Quote:
I don't think your leghorn will be too upset as long as you leave her with at least a chick or two.
HOW LONG DOES A HEN MOTHER - - - depends on the hen. Some live to be mothers and aren't happy unless they are hatching or raising. THESE girls are rare with worth a billion dollars !

Others are done as soon as they hatch, others are done after a couple of weeks, some go a month , some more. . . just depends on the instinct.

REMEMBER - - - leghorns aren't suppose to go broody. Girlfriend - - you are already in uncharted waters !
