Coffee's ready...

Good morning chicken wrangler,
I am a lonely chicken herder.Sittin here with my coffee and my key board reminds me of when I first came to the byc.I was but a wee one and it was a way back in olden times.Aye twas just a sprinkle of stars in the night sky a way back then.I was Stout of limb and quick as the mornin air back then.
I ramble those are but fond memories.Anybody out there?
God Bless!

So one of our pullets, 17 week old Tessa, is the bottom of the pecking order. She's very sweet but very shy, always holds back when the others are eating. I gave them a bunch of leftover elbow macaroni, they all loved it, but she was standing back about 18 inches. Then I saw our cockerel Terooha pick up one macaroni, and it suddenly shot out of his beak like he spit it out, straight across to Tessas feet. She ate it, and then he did it again, and then a third time.

His head was only about 5 inches above the ground when he spit them out, so the trajectory/velocity was rather dramatic. I've never seen anything like it. I should have grabbed my phone and gotten a video but I was too surprised.

Good morning chicken wranglers,
gargoyle that would have gotten you some kind of a prize on one of those video shows. What I'd have given to see that.
What you said about surprise reminds me of last night .I was driving to help out a guy that ran out of gas,I was already Irked,I had to go 30 miles one way.I noticed an idiot drifting into my lane.
I started getting over to the edge of the road"hoping that he would notice and swerve back into his Lane.Well long story short ,By the time he noticed he was on me I was off the road.I wished like the dickens that I'd have honked flipped him off or something but all I did was save my life and that was enough for the day.
God Bless!

Good morning people,
I hope this finds everyone doing well and getting ready for the winter. The better half is eying the wood stove...... It was the first refreshing morning this morning, 39 deg's. The garden is coming to a end, nothing but green tomatoes, 1 egg plant (soon to be eaten) and butternut squashes. The pumpkins have been picked and are displayed. This seasons firewood is all cut and split, I just have the the "extra/ just in case" wood to process.
We were up in Maine for about a week, doing some hiking and biking. What a difference it was with out the kids (our kids) around. We saw parts of the island (Mt. Dessert) we never knew existed. We have been up there in the past when the kids where small. During that time, we saw every play ground, beach and museums. Now we hiked some trails and biked the carriage roads.

Enjoy your day
Kaj

See... This is what good men are suppose to do, Take Care of their Women.

My husband and I will just having a conversation about this yesterday. He wanted to teach our daughter all kinds of mechancial stuff for repairing a car. I told him Firmly NO. He looked at me funny and I explained.... A man needs to be needed. If you teach your daughter to do these things she won't wait for a man to get around to them. On top of that a Good Man will want to take care of daughter. If he doesn't want to take care of these things then he probably won't be taking care of our daughter....

I reminded my husband about the early days of our marriage when he felt like he needed to show me how to do certain things. I calmy replied..."Sweetie, Dear, my dad used to take care of those things for me. I am not about to start taking care of those things now. You either take care of them for me, now that you are my husband, or I will let dad take care of them." Additionally, I remind him that single women have to take care of everything themselves, married women do not!

We've been married for almost 30 years now. GOOD JOB - Terooha! Treat a lady right...

We had a cook out last night... Worked in the yard all day...
I am working on planting flowers in my front island. I bought some lettuce plants from Home Depot yesterday. It was so hot yesterday, that even in the shade the plants were wilting. Our veg graden is just beginning to sprout. I am hoping the frosts hold off long enough to get a fall harvest of green beans :)

Oh Karl, you wax so eloquently!
I do remember the old times on BYC. I still can not get the search feature to work correctly on the new BYC. I totally avoided BYC for a while after the switch. Add to that the whole penalty system for improper posts. I was warned a couple of times on the old system about improper posts. I would of been ripping mad had someone penalized me without speaking to me first. . .

Keep in mind, I am NOT a rule breaker. I am NOT a rowdy sort. I got in trouble for things that others have done and not got in trouble for...
For example, I got warned once when I posted something about my intentions to have a couple of drinks that night because it had been a very rough day. I included a smilie pouring a glass of wine. I was warned that this was against the rules because this was a family friendly web site and we were not to encourage minors to do illegal things.... No where in the rules does it state that my post was over the line. The rules were interpreted by the moderator that called me on it... Of course, I've followed the RULES and never made another post about it. I respected the moderator because she handled it in a friendly way. This was BEFORE the new penalty system. I would of been hurt and angry if an innocent comment broke a vague rule and the result was some kind of penality....

In case you can't tell... I don't think I am over the whole PENALTY mentality of the new system.
So Karl, I too yearn for the olden times when I lived in innocence and did not feel like big brother was standing above me with a hammer ready to come down on my head at any moment.

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Math you lift my spirits on a drizzly drab dour day.
Q I had ice on the windshield Sunday and Monday. It was only 40 degrees but we live on the top of the bluff overlooking the river. It generally freezes a little earlier there than in the Lowlands.
I cannot weight for the people to clear out of my new property since I want get it all ready for hogs and cows.Well good to hear from y'all and God Bless you.Gotta go

Morning people,
Good to see you back visiting us Math Ace.

Karl: We are holding off firing up the wood stove. I can still understand the better half when she talks to me (teeth aren't chattering yet). We haven't had frost yet, but you can feel it in the air. We are about 3 miles from the Hudson River. Some mornings you can hear the tug boats and trains moving up and down the river.

I let the chickens loose in the garden. Looks like I, myself and the chickens have something in common, neither of us care for egg plant.

Enjoy your day
Kaj
