Coffee's ready...

Good coffee and a good day to all.
That it is. Nice sunny day, +25 deg C outside. I got my composter painted, and I still have about two thirds of the fence left to paint. Painting continuous surfaces is much more fun than loads of separate parts like on a fence. We ate our first homegrown new potatoes yesterday, this tater tower growing seems to be a good idea.

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Felix what is a tater tower? My taters are all in rows that are mounded , the sweat taters are about the same long rows with the vines all along the rows. We will have many more taters then we will be able to eat this year. tis far better to have and not need.
Q I think pickles are the greatest. My wife stayed home from work to can a few jars last week and they are tony the tiger grrreat.
I keep busy so I hope that I'm deep enough in that to stay out of her hair, but we do work together every day so there is no escaping it if I'm aggravating her.
I will admit that my wife also has half again as much man as she married and I am not even retired, so she has even more to look forward to, shade in the summer and heat in the winter, and so much more of me to love!
God Bless!

Kaj, all those laying are laying in the nest boxes. Last night my 2 SLWs decided to sleep in the run under the coop??? Could not get them in. They are both laying so will go out and see what's up this morning,

Felix also interested in tater tower? any Pics?

Cleaned coop out yesterday and put in new shavings. extended the garden 4 feet with the old bedding.

Has anyone heard from Oes? Oes if you are lurking out there how 'bout a Hidie Ho?

Busy here yesterday cleaning coops too. Went quite well I might add. Cleanings light and dry. Had to wear a mask cuz of the dust. To many chickens do deal with right now though.

Lots of buckets of blueberries at the farmers market.

Friends have been bringing me jelly jars so the pressure is on. I do have a Blueberry/Sweet Cherry recipe. Too, a friend brought by two large bags of his Raspberries. I've got plenty in the freezer too. With the warm weather I can't spend it inside.

Garden not doing as well as I'd like. It's hot here and dry so far. Little sprinkle of rain yesterday. Long enough for me to take a nap.

DW is home since she's getting Chemo treatments, so we're getting in each others way. I've backed off doting on her. She gets ornery. It's not hard to stay out of her hair now that she's had her head shaved. She feels much better and it doesn't seem to bother her.

Vehve - there was a push here quite a few years ago to switch to Celsius/metric but it went no where. I wish we'd made the switch it would make thing so much easier. Some recipes I use are in metric and I spend far too much time looking up the conversions.

They're seen on the right here. Its netting put in a barrel shape, lined with hay, and the soil and potatoes layered inside. You can grow more in less space since they get more light like this.

Vehve, Do you start Low and add more straw/hay as the plants grow. or do you start with the frame fully loaded?
Have tried several time with no success ground planting including laying potatoes on tilled ground and covering with hay. Got lots of hay seed sprouting but no potatoes

Fully loaded. I'll post a picture once I get home.

This is how they looked after planting. The straw lining is about 2 inches, and we have a mixture of 'black soil' and peat moss, with a layer of 4-5 potatoes every 6 inches in it. You place the potatoes about 2-3 inches in from the hay, and direct the sprout outwards. We have a bit too many potatoes in there, since we only planted the two.

Pulled the garlic. Nice bulbs but not as many as I'd like. Next year God willing will be better. Will be preparing beds better. Have to start another compost pile too.

Is that a circle of fencing? You get enough potatoes for how long? We go through a lot of potatoes.
