Coffee's ready...

Morning people,

Looking good RngrBill. Looks like you'll have 2 nest boxes? Are you putting in a human door for cleaning? Good work and keep the pace.

Looks like mid to upper 60's rest of this week, with rumors of low 70's on Monday. We went for a nice walk at the Roosevelt Estate in Hyde Park yesterday. We took a trail down to the river. Nothing exciting, just being outside and moving around was what I was looking for.

Chickens are getting back to laying again. 3 eggs for yesterday.

Enjoy the day, it's the only one

Rain today, T-storms not much work will be done on the coop except what I can do inside the garage. Yesterday got up most of the roof, polycarbonate, 2 clear panels and 2.5 smoked panels. If I realized how lightly the smoked panels were smoked I might have done the whole thing in smoked. Also got the tall wall done with the Pop door and the high vents over the roost. Roost support and Poop board supports installed. Getting the roof up for a man of my size was a real effort. I don't do ladders like I used to do and with the pure clay soil the ladders sink about 6" when I step on them. I really helps steady them but doesn't feel that way when your climbing. Will try to get some more pics between the lightning.

Que, the short side that is next to go up will have a 3' x 4-5' (haven't decided yet, will do that with saw in hand) door for clean out and to service the feeder and water bucket I use in the coop. The water bucket has nipples and a 7-watt heater paddle for the cold winter days that will go below freezing, a lot less here than in MA. Have a thermo-block plug that turns on when the temp drops below 35° and shuts back off at 40° or something like that so don't have to worry about frozen water. Will also have a water bucket in the run. The door by the nest boxes is for cleaning off the Poop board.

Have an eggcellent day.

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Cold is back upon us, We will see mid 20's this evening.
We plan on awakening this evening ,Or rather tomorrow morning for the blood moon. It is supposed to happen between midnight and 2:00 am the fifteenth.
Rngr your coop looks sturdy and practical. We will be anxious to see the end result! My young'uns left the brooder light on the floor of the brooder and it caught the shavings on fire and burned a hole through the floor of the brooder. Amazingly we lost nary a chic to that but on the following day my eldest set the water er on top of one of the chicks and killed it so we are down to about 35 chicks in the brooder now!
It is amazing to watch the rate at which the Cornish crosses grow or outgrow the rest of the brood!
Well,
God Bless!

Was looking for a big yawn!!!
Morning y'all. a grey rainy day in KY. But it is warm. Need to finish closing in the coop regardless of rain. Thinking of top hinging the window it is only for air as the roof is pretty clear.
Sorry to hear your misfortune Karl. Still have the same number of "young'uns". I hope your brooder is larger than mine. I am worried about my juveniles becoming delinquents they are so crowded now. Well pictures to follow. Got the cleanout/service doors and that side wall installed yesterday and a coat of stain on the outside. Today I close up the nest box, and pop-door holes, hang the poop board cleanout door, put in a bracket to support the center of the poop board, put in the roost bar, shavings and chickens. Yeah! they will be out of the house.

I need 4 leg bands to help tell the girls apart. anybody have any to share.

OES! how are things across the pond. Hope you are still lurking.

Well. breakfast and off to TSC for shavings.

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Rngr the chicks are doing good. My boy has some in the house and it is time for them to go out to the barn with the rest.
Cold this week, 30 this am, may get up to 60 today, Nothing is growing yet. Even the trees are without buds, save for the earliest of them. Funny that the middle of April is so barren.
I imagine that soon enough it will come on with a vengeance and we will be flooded with green and complaining about the heat and the mowing.
As of this moment we are in great anticipation of the coming of stability in the weather. Within Reason I guess ! The weather is never stable!
Did anyone catch the blood Moon? We all (as a family ) got up and watched and took some photo's . It was awesome!
God Bless!

Morning people,
Another cool morning this morning, but it is warming nicely up to the high 50's - low 60's. Nice little fire in the morning to keep that "look" from my better half at bay. The last of the stitches were removed yesterday, surgeon gave me the ok for light duty. To celebrate, I picked up some 2x6x10 and started working on the raised beds. I have about half of them built and should finished today. Then the fun part, filling them with dirt.
I can also get back into hiking (light pack) and biking(high gears) to start off with.

RngrBill - Looks like you are moving a head there. It's great when it all comes together.

Karl - It was cloudy here to be able to see the blood moon. The maples are starting to flower, as with the spice bushes. The lilies are starting to push up, snow drops and ending, crocus and daffodils are flowering.

The kale and swiss chard has sprouted. We are getting 2 - 3 eggs a day now.

Enjoy the day, it's the only one

Well we are finally there! 72 at 6 p.m.. How delightful! still waiting for the wire for the run. Here are some pics. we just had Thunder over Louisville to kick off the Derby festival so I included a pic of the Blue Angels. No awards for photography for me.

my city, don/t know who the gal is?

Did a make shift run with snow fence yesterday. Had to chase them in. It was funny watching DW run around in circles trying to catch the girls to put them into the coop. Tonight they went in by themselves after several attempts. They are funny creatures.

Happy Easter to all!
