Kaj, you can plant the tater towers almost anywhere, they don't need anything under them. Just some net, straw and soil. At first they look like smaller round straw bales, and then they'll turn into bushes, they're actually pretty decorative. I don't know how we'll plant potatoes this year, but beans will go into bags again, that turned out great.

That cabinet looks nice, I especially like the black walnut.

Morning people,
I hope this finds everyone including their better halves and family doing good. It's been a bit busy here. Seems like the older you get, the less time in a day. Myself, doing good. Doctor has completely changed my diet. I am glad the better half was with me. She wouldn't have believed me.
Anyways, part of the garden was planted and the kale and collard greens are making themselves known as are most of my starter plants. We picked up a couple of peach trees and should be planting them this week. I built 2 more raised beds and have about 3 1/2 yds of topsoil (mud at the moment) to fill them with. I was hoping to make those potato towers, but I don't think it will happen. I was going to put them in a raised bed, but with the rotation of crops every year..... I am trying something different were we grown our vine plants. In the past, it was one big weed and vine collection. Over the fall and winter I have been dumping the wood chips/dust from the shop in the area we grow them. We were going to try growing them in bags of topsoil, but I decided to take it a bit further/different. I am going to build little raised beds, say 14" - 16" square and about 8" - 10" tall. I'll see what happens.
The shop is doing good. A couple more custom orders this month. Here's one of the last ones that I personally liked. Curly Maple and black walnut.

Morning people,
Looks like it is going to be a nice day. A cool morning, but a bright sun coming in. I need it to be a bit warmer to drag this caucus out of bed at a reasonable time. Nice easy day today, a few things to finish in the shop, then possibly a office day working on a drawing. I was hoping to move some topsoil, but after that rain it's more like mud.....

@vehve - You might once again talked me into the potato towers. The problem with the raise beds are crop rotations and the dirt involved. I think I am going to try them where I grow the vine crops. There is room there and the dirt can stay there and changed without to much trouble.

@rancher hicks - We don't have a TV. At one time we had satellite, but it seem every other year the cost kept climbing for hundreds of channels that I never watched or could understand. There isn't enough houses on the road for the cable company to come through. I could pay to have a line strung from the main road, about 3/4 of a mile away.

Kaj, I just composted the soil I had in the towers. I just added a layer of the straw and soil from the towers into my compost bin between other layers.

Morning people,
Feels like old man winter is trying to claw his way back here. I awoke to 36 degs and yesterday we came across a good snow storm (your old stumping grounds @rngrbill ). Forecast for this week seems like it will get "warmer", but we'll see. I hope it warms up some by the end of May, going on a small camping trip.
I started my honey dew list this year. I ordered up replacement windows and garage doors. I have a small reprieve till they come to get the beds in shape and more firewood processed. It's going to be a busy year for me here.

@vehve - If I put them in the vine area, could just let scatter the dirt when I harvest them and grab fresh stuff right there. On anther plus side, doing it this way, I'll have another bed for more food...........

I was talking about planting tomato plants earlier this week even though I know better. 38 F now - light frost last night - light snow yesterday.

It just won't give up.

Well the repairs on the house are done but the fence still needs to be fixed.

I'm hurting due to the cold and damp. BUT we will, by the grace of God, be head to Texas next week.

I had thought to stick some tomato plants in before we left but in 6 weeks they might be to big to be under the milk jugs, (see previous years pic) by the time I get back.






My DD is taking care of the chicks and chickens. She has two little kids so I don't want to ask her to take care of them too.

I did buy beans to put in, plus lettuce and peas.

We're having a new garage door installed while we're away. Our current one is heavy wood and rotted along the bottom.

Well I'm still here, Got a shot in the back for my lower back pain. Went to the back doctor and said I had lower back pain, He took pictures, sent me to have a MRI, and told me I had lower back pain, DUH

. Well went for first shot on Wed. and it seems to be helping.

We have had 2 weeks of company with 3 days in between them. Cold and rainy whole time they were here. There gone and weather is starting to dry out a bit but still some showers and we are having some frost. My Big Mama tomatoes (from Burpee that I started from seed) need to get into the garden as they are too big for the "Red Solo Cup" we have them in and some now have blossoms. and WE ARE HAVING FROST.

I did go fishing for the first time this year with my new pole I got from DD for Christmas. Caught some weeds, bout average.
