Coffee's ready...

Good morning chicken wranglers
Coffee is on! got a cow that sprays milk from her udder every time she takes a step, never saw anything like it, all 5 teets! She should calv within 24hrs, I hope.
I'm a little impatient but then I' m not the one giving birth. wish her good luck!
God bless!

That's quite an image, Karl! And good luck to her, she sounds quite ready!

Well, I don't know if having a swap in my back yard had anything to do with it, or if maybe the pigeons brought them in, but my girls are all covered in poultry lice

. I noticed the BR huddled in a corner when I let them all out after work yesterday. She is alert and will eat and drink, but after a close examination, I finally saw the little buggers - and their eggs. She felt light, too. The EE is also pretty low-weight, but the rest don't seem to have been infested quite as bad. I dusted them all with Seven dust, as well as the coop, and will follow up next week. I wondered why I hadn't had to refill the feeder yet - they just aren't eating as well, poor things! And yet they keep on laying, bless their little chicken hearts.

Math Ace, I would love some of your greens, since I can't plant until I have the aviary done and am no longer letting the chickens free-range everyday. One of them tried a green tomato yesterday - the tomato plant and pepper plant are all I've got going for now.

Have any of you brooded ducks indoors before? DEAR LORD THEY STINK!

I thought chicks were bad, but chicks have NOTHING on ducklings. They are still all fuzz, but next week I am at least going to brood them outdoors during the day and indoors at night. It will be 80s during the day, 60s at night. They are a blast to watch, though. I laugh out loud every time they take off running.

Well, time to get to work. Have a great day, chicken wranglers!

Oh that is TERRIBLE. Good luck getting rid of them.

It is getting so WARM / HOT outside that I will start dipping mine this weekend. I don't see any signs of anyone with them . . . but I just don't like to wait until after the fact. I use the adams PLUS. .. and it has a 90 day preventative chemical. . .So, I'll dip now, again in July, AND TRY TO FIND A warm DAY IN EARLY October to do it one more time. . . . Then nothing until April of the following year. I worm in April and October too.
MITES - - - I spray the coop every 60 days or so ( perches, wall, etc). Also, do a complete change of bedding every weekend. I do put sevin down on the ground UNDER the hay in their coop. I just hung my fly paper last weekend. It never fails that I end up walking into a strip and getting stuck to it myself

math, I've never dusted with Sevin dust (yet). Is there a period where you don't eat the eggs after dusting with it? I've always been confused with that stuff.

It really sounds like you have a good plan for those little buggers!

I've not had to dust the chicken with sevin yet. . . . Dusting the chicken with sevin is my back-up plan if the weather is too cold to dip. . .

I like to dip them early in the morning and by evening they are all nice and day AND CLEAN. When it is 90 - 100 here the dip helps them cool off for the day too.
I feel like I get better coverage with the dip. Since, it is not absorbed into the bloodstream, I do not worry about an egg withdrawal period for either sevin dust or adams flea and tick. . . .

Others may have found additional infomration that contradicts what I do . . . . .
