Ocean Picture Stone from Canada with dendrites, a mineral, not a fossil, but very cool!

Petrified wood is going into the tumbler and I will be updating in a few weeks! :love

That sounds so fun!! We had to cancel a few planned rock and fossil hounding expeditions as well. I really want to go to Shark Tooth Island. We still plan on going but our priorities definitely shifted since then so I don't know when we'll get to go.

I have been doing some fun swaps with others that have been hunting for stones and fossils though! I received some ocean picture stone from Canada, petrified wood from Texas, and Hourglass selenite from Oklahoma in some fun trades! 🥰 Swapping is almost as much fun and hunting for them yourself!
That sounds like a really cool place to check out! That would be a doable traveling distance for us. If you were on the northwest side of GA I'd say you should join our group as we're technically right on the TN border. I'm not familiar with all of the places they go because they are just now picking back up into the swing of things. But last weekend they went to Chunky Gal Mtn and this weekend's trip is closer to middle tn. And a swap meet coming up in the fall.

I want to see if I can get a decent picture of that thing I can't figure out what it is...

So fun! I might need to consider that!

This is their website https://tennesseevalleyrockandmineralsociety.org/ there is a very very small membership fee to cover insurance and society fees.

Camera on the phone just doesn't do these justice. Had to put the toy car in there to get it to focus at all. The dark areas are full of tiny dark spots. Wondering if that might be algae.

The crushed trilobite lol. I bought a rotary tool to try and clean up fossils but I'm scared to try it on these, very brittle.

Thank you!

You can use a stabilizer on fossils when removing them from stone so they don't fall apart. It's definitely a specialized hobby though. I've seen some people do amazing work. There is a guy on youtube that collects concretions and does time-lapse videos uncovering the crabs inside. It's really incredible!

I received the best surprise this week!

A box of beautiful little rocks!! I searched high and low trying to figure out who sent this to me and I saw a little message when I hopped on BYC that said "surprise!". She didn't even know that last Monday was my birthday! Poultry people and the nicest kind of people! :love ❤️❤️❤️

A hint at some of the finds from today. Still have just as many left to crack open. I have one filled completely with dolomite and quartz crystal that isn't great to look at but I think it's neat cause I've never seen one like it.

This stone was pretty cool. The fossil is inside a hole in the rock, the picture makes it look flat. There may be more fossils on it it's hard to tell without some cleaning.
