Interesting place to find that stuff! I don’t exactly know HOW to look for things, I just kind dig through a pile of rocks until I find something that doesn’t look like the rest of them

That's basically how the magic happens.
The only time rock hounding is more graceful is when you already know where particular stones are commonly found and what they're found in.

Your little cork shaped ones are crinoid fossils.
