Colonel & his females

Hopefully in spring because I want to hatch out a few ducklings to sell. It's going to be a little hard selling ducklings because I know I'll get a little attached but since I don't have an actual job yet, it'll be how I earn money to keep the birds fed.

Some good news though, they are getting brave enough to come up to me even when I don't have any food.

I was wrong. I just caught Colonel mating with Duchess. They're now currently cleaning themselves.
I had heard one of the chickens clucking so I decided to peek outside to see what was up and saw Colonel on Duchess. But they weren't in the kiddie pool.
Also if he kept trying to shove her face into a dog water bowl they were near, was he trying to drown her while mating with her?

Nope they just do that kind of stuff they will even look like they are drowning the females in the pool but since 2004 I haven’t lost one female. Sounds like they have grown up now.

Colonel has started to mount her more than once a day and I was fine with the once a day mounting but now I feel it's time to keep them separated unless I'm out there watching them during free ranging time. They will only be separated whenever I need to keep them locked up all day in the yards. If they're free ranging, they will be watched together to prevent him from mounting her too much. I watch them while I'm out there for half the morning anyway so this will be okay for me.

Also, I've been checking out couple other duck breeders I found nearby because the lady I was originally going to get a duckling from said she hasn't gotten any eggs from her ducks yet. She offered to sell one of her older females but I said I'd think about it. The only reason I'm getting a duckling instead of an older female, is because I would like to bond to it so that it doesn't run from me like Colonel & Duchess do. Plus, I feel getting a duckling instead would be easier for me.
