My little group of replacement pullets Have decided to all start sleeping in the same nesting box.

Pretty tight knit flock.

Updated: problem solved, I just found them the other day and snapped a photo.

Hmmm Allowing them to sleep in the nest box(es) is kinda setting a bad precedent for later... Not much fun when they poop in there and the boxes have to be cleaned, and when they lay eggs in the poop, then you have nasty eggs. Maybe block them off or take them out until they reach POL? Nice looking girls.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY
For all the dads out there.. I hope you all have, or had depending on time of read a great fathers day!

So very hot out I also hope all the chickens out there make it through in flying colors.

I'm having a nesting box problem with my hens lately. With it being about 100 in the coop today, I'm going out there to block them from the nesting boxes for a bit. I have a feeling my younger rooster has been upsetting the balance of the flock dynamics & some of the hens are just hiding in there. Can't get that Bro Coop set up fast enough!

Have you decided if the other two are roos or pullets?

All males, nobody else is crowing but the grey one is starting to harass the other two and even tried mounting a 1-year-old hen . Will have to do something about them soon.

Anyone interested in two Oiliver Egger cockerels or one Easter Egger Cockerel? They are about 11 weeks old.

Also we have a horrible bunch of Broodies right now in Englewood, three of our one-year olds are hogging the nest boxes and we are getting like 6-8 eggs a day from 14. In this heat.......maybe the heat will break them from their broodiness.

I thought you all might enjoy a good laugh at this "okra" plant.

I planted it at least a month ago and yes it is now trying to bloom. It was about 6 inches tall when planted and YES that IS the identifying tag next to it. I water it and I have it in good soil not much else I can do for it.

Some very handsome roo pictures being posted lately. Too bad there are so many issues involved with having roos/multiple roos. They are such lovely looking birds.

So my brother smoked my quail for father's day lunch. He looked online and it said to smoke for 3-4 hours. I told him that was probably too long but he tried it. They were dry but had good flavor. I've got a couple more we didn't cook so I'm going to try cooking those tonight.

Folks on the "What Gender is this?" section said both my EE and my BLRW look like pullets. I know this could still change as they are only 8 and 9 weeks old but I'm more hopeful. Think I'll have to wait longer on the AMs. They are all still sleeping on the floor of the coop. I have a 2x4 placed low so they can easily get on while they are still young. They do roost during the day on a 2x2 I have further off the ground in the run. So I know they can get up higher. Will they eventually teach themselves to roost at night?
