Holy Moly!!! My order from McMurray arrived today. 28 peepers, no shipping notice. Hatched 5pm on the 15th. Called for pickup by the post office at 7pm today. That's a 26 hour ship time!

I am thrilled to have the peeps before Sunday, just WOW...

OMG, they arrived on a Saturday?? Wow, never would have thought that. Very unusual.

Some days are so much more fun than others.

Woke up to the septic backing up into the house. No warning. Checked under the house, dripping over a brooder (luckily not dirty water, the softener had been doing its backflush so the water was clean, thank goodness), quickly moved the chicks into dry digs, floor wet, threw down shavings, also had to move another group of chicks.

Neither of us could remember where the septic tank was so it took quite a bit of digging to find it, uncovered the lids, called a couple places to try and get it pumped out today with no success. One of them did tell me though that I probably had a "tissue blockage" between the inlet pipe and the baffle which we should be able to dislodge ourselves, and luckily he was right. Now that it's uncovered we will go ahead and have it pumped tomorrow or the next day, and will use the gentleman who told us how to clear the blockage.

Wendell I know you will understand when I say it took a pickaxe to loosen the "dirt" enough to uncover the lids. The day is only half over and we are worn out. Hopefully a bit of a rest will rejuvenate me enough to get more done, as there is plenty left to do.

Is this really supposed to be going on today? Fifteen minutes before its supposed to start and the place is locked up and quiet.
Locked up and quiet? They are always opened on Sunday , and usually really busy. I was thinking of going up but if they are not having the swap, I can get feed tomorrow:/

Ugh. What a way to start the day. That is no fun at all. Our septic pipe froze about 6 weeks ago. We had to uncover and take the garden hose and flush it in the pipe back toward the house to finally unthaw it. I guess a lot of people up here had that problem because of no snow cover to insulate the pipes.

Glad you were able to get the chicks moved and had no black water backup to deal with.

Weird. I found the listing on Craigslist, they even updated it at some point with a time change.

Sad day today. We had to put Summer, my banty Brahma down. Poor gal must have gotten into it with one of the big girls. I never saw any aggression beyond normal pecking order stuff and they've been mixed in for over a month but I can't think of any other way she would have shattered her leg and hip like that.

This was the first time I've been to that feed store. My husband was surprised when I told him it wasn't open. Unless I went to the wrong place. It said "Big R feed store" and was surrounded by a fence with a chain link gate that was closed. No cars around. Nice drive from Parker, though.

That sucks. We have been REALLY diligent on knowing where our septic access lids are.

The funny thing is, when we first built the place we talked many times about marking them, and just never got around to it. We are thinking about putting a couple shepherd's hooks with bird feeders over the lids when we backfill the hole.
