Hi gang, Just wantd to share this from another thread, concerning Monsanto's knowingly proceeding with Roundup even though they knew it caused cancer! They knew this 30 years ago, pure evil! Shame on our government for giving them the stamp of approval for Roundup, I personally am not surprised that this was known. Seems as if big industry and our government are more concerned about the all mighty $.

Thought you might find this article interesting.  Finally after all this baloney about glyphosate being so safe that you can drink it from the bottle...   I put a few quotes below but there is a lot of "food for thought" in the article itself.  And more good reason to keep away from conventionally farmed grains for animal feed or for ourselves.

Hope your luck there isn't like mine... Had a BA I tried to break and she kept going back, so I put eggs under her and 6 days later she quit on me Hope yours is serious! Good luck with it

Actually, the reason we tried to break her is because she was just broody a month ago, and hatched five chicks. She was mean to us though, so I didn't let her stay with the chicks..which is prob why she's broody again. I'm sure being a Cochin has nothing to do with it.

Welcome to all the newbies!!!!!  Sounds like a lovely plan on adding more chicks.  I was looking for a BCM last spring.  Put him up on the BST page here, you never know........

Hmmmm, not sure I could handle 110!!!!!!  Hope those eggs hatch for you, nice selection!  WOW!  If they don't I do have bantam cochin chicks, frizzle and smooth for sale, and more hatching the end of the month.  I also sell hatching eggs on occasion.

We have has some clouds blow in, so has not been to hot these last few days!

Talk about timing. I'll give it a try. I havent had any luck on CL or the many Facebook groups I'm a part of.

I have seven , yes, seven broodies right now, I had more but two have finally given up, after six weeks! Bantam Cochins are sure broody this year!

Tang, You will need 20 posts before you can put up an ad on the Buy Sell Trade section here. I have a ton of boys to either sell or cull, no fun, but has to be done. Hope you can get your guy sold.

Yeah I noticed that. Guess you'll be seeing plenty of me around! Instead of ordering online I thought about getting local but having to deal with any roosters is a pain. I had someone local that I could take anything to but he's getting older now and has been trying to slow down. Well after two attempts to contact him I'm thinking he's really slowed down.

Hello, other new posters!

Seems like a lot of people are trying to get rid of their roosters lately - is this a common thing with chicken owners? Yesterday, our neighbor tried to give their rooster to my dad (along with a random peacock that showed up at their house). I didn't even know they had a rooster or the number of chickens/turkeys they had. They're 30+ birds are so quiet compared to my 10 loudmouths! I guess they had a menagerie over there, but for some reason didn't want the single rooster in the flock.

I kinda feel bad for roosters, especially when reading a majority of the posts here about how you "have" to kill them the minute they look cross eyed at you. I hope everyone finds a home or gets put to good use for y'all.

I really want some of MPC super blue egg layers, but they only have hatching eggs. Our incubator just fries eggs, anyone know how to fix it? The best thermometer to recalibrate? We want a Brinsea, but can't justify the cost if we aren't selling anything.

@Ashdoes What kind of incubator do you have now? If you're looking for a thermometor, you might try a hygrometer. I've used the CALIBER IV DIGITAL HYGROMETER. This particular one will record the low and the high temp and humidity. It might not solve the fried eggs problem but would at least let you know the temps being reached. There's another model I have used as well but can't find it atm.

Hello, other new posters!

Seems like a lot of people are trying to get rid of their roosters lately - is this a common thing with chicken owners? Yesterday, our neighbor tried to give their rooster to my dad (along with a random peacock that showed up at their house). I didn't even know they had a rooster or the number of chickens/turkeys they had. They're 30+ birds are so quiet compared to my 10 loudmouths! I guess they had a menagerie over there, but for some reason didn't want the single rooster in the flock.

Roosters get a bad rap but when you think about it, they don't serve that big of a purpose. You don't need one to get eggs, they eat food and don't contribute, during the summer they can crow as early as 5 in the morning (not good if you're in city limits, like me, and like your peace and quiet, as I do), and some can be really aggressive and attack you (like mine). They're really only needed for protection and to fertilize and even then one can suffiently handle 15 hens and sometimes even more. Their need is really very limited. I personally don't mind them most of the time but when they get mean or are too rough with my hens, that's when they have to go. I've had a couple in my time that were just awesome. I have yet to kill any of my chickens and the roosters I've managed to sell or get rid of each time.

OK, so today is National Fried Chicken Day!! http://www.al.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2015/07/national_fried_chicken_day_cel.html I was out anyway and heard this on the radio, King Soopers advertising an 8 piece for $3.99. Since it's cloudy, cool, rainy/drizzly I figured why not? I stopped at a new KS sooper center that opened nearby and bought one. I'm eating it right now as I type. I normally don't care for chain grocer's fried chicken as it's normally over cooked and dry dry dry. But this is actually tender and juicy! Great choice! YUM

Hope y'all are having a semi-spectacular day. Nice break from the heat of late. I'm back to work tomorrow and dreading it... thinking about calling in and extending one (or two?!) more day(s)... Won't make going back any easier
