no, but geese can get pretty noisy sometimes. Our did and their water was a MESS. We had to get rid of ours so the goats could have clean drinking water.

I would put the plastic or wooden eggs in the nesting boxes for a while and take down the extra wood for privacy (not sure I understood that part though) The only birds I have that never use nesting boxes are my silkies but then, they cannot roost either. Every once in a while one large fowl will lay an egg in an odd place, i think when you just get the urge you just do it, no matter where.

If anyone is interested, I will have some gorgeous Silkie cockerels for sale. Cannot ship but anyone is welcome to pick up. I have black, white and buff. $20-$50 each depending on quality.

Howdy! I'm new to all of this... I live in Boulder, and last weekend, we were lucky to acquire a small sturdy coop and 3 RIRs from someone whose HOA didn't allow them. My kids are in love with them, and I'm working on an enclosed run for them. (We have a fairly large yard, but I want a really safe place for them to be when no one is home... I don't want a dog or a predator to get into our yard and get them.) I'm planning on making it portable. I'd also like to put large castors on the coop to be able to move it around. If anyone is in Boulder, I'd love to hear recs on good places to get hay, straw, and feed. Thanks!

Sounds like you're on the right track making sure the run in predator-proof - from both wild and domestic predators. Most of all - have fun with the chicks! Sorry - can't help with the feed stores up in Boulder, but I'm sure someone help will provide that info. Does McGuckins carry feed? I hear they carry EVERYTHING!! Going to McGuckins is on my bucket list!

You could go to Jax in lafayette. I know they have feed. We get organic feed from a woman in golden, every six weeks or so :) Murdochs also has feed available. Chickens are fun, and having a safe place for them to go away from dogs is definitly important (as we've learned to our sorrow!) Nice to meet someone from this general area!
