i got woken up at 430a to the sound of water gushing outside my bedroom window. Turns out a few sprinkler heads basically exploded and they were flooding our yard. Hubby ended up turning the water off to the back yard.....

its going to be a pain watering my garden, flowers and the chickens till we can figure out if we can get it turned off in the water box (where all the pipes for the sprinklers are) instead of in the house.
The kids are mad that i can't fill the pool too!

There is a Short Tailed Weasel & a Least Weasel in Colorado....mostly Foothills and along rivers and streams. I've caught a few in traps...I know that they are here. Mink would be a bigger concern, as they occur in far greater numbers...again they are primarily along rivers and streams.

Neighbor lady across the street used to have a problem every spring with the heads blowing out on her spinkler system. I must have replaced...???I don't know how many heads on here system (just so you know...I never had to replace the same head twice

)

Dig down around the head to exposed the head and the water line and create a nice work area....unthread the head from the nipple and clean the threads of the nipple throughly. Use teflon tape on the threads of the nipple; then screw the new head into place and backfill the hole around where the head was installed.

After the install is completed, run the system and adjust the sprinkler heads so that they are all pointig in the correct directions.

The most work will be digging the hole around the sprinkler head.

I'm in Strasburg 30 miles east of Denver. I love having chickens and will setup my fold out chair and just sit and watch my chickies. I've placed random boards around and the girls will gather around waiting for me to lift them so they can run after the bugs. My sister laughed for days when I lifted a board up and there were tons of moths. Chickens were going crazy running after them and gobbling them up.

Only one? You obviously need more Dominiques.....

I was putting some water in the coops yesterday and one of my Dom pullets flew up and perched on my shoulder. Too funny...

Aww! My spoiled little EE has been such a butt like this lately. We leave the door open on the coop when moving them in from the tractor for the night since they rarely try to jump out. She isn't having any of that of course. She jumps right out and makes a circle around the garden, then comes over to my feet as if to say, "hey, I wasn't done being held. pick me up again thanks"

I have some sad news too. On the way to work I hit a young robin with my car. The poor thing flew right under so I must have just barely clipped it. I turned around and it was still breathing but looking sad with a drop of blood on its beak. The magpies were already coming over to feast so I took it home so at least it could die in peace. It sat in my hand breathing shallowly during the drive over, but when I got home it started flapping around the kitchen jumping up on cookbooks! I thought it must be fine, but when I put it into a box in a dark room it just laid on its side and closed its eyes. I hope it can rest and get better but the blood makes me think maybe not. I feel so terrible, I've never hit anything before, much less a bird that reminds me of my own girls. It is in a covered box at home and I'm hoping for the best when I go home at lunchtime. Is there anything else I can do? There is a wildlife rescue place in town somewhere, but their website only gives a PO box and I know sometimes wildlife rescue places don't like to 'waste their time' on common animals like robins and squirrels.

Yesterday I was outside watching mine when my mother called. She asked what I was doing and when I told her she commented on how I live an 'exciting' life. They think I am crazy for having them but they are fun to just sit and watch.

Since this is post 100 I will add a picture of my little brown coat Zoe. (Firefly reference).

Last time one of my birds was on my back they took a dump (one of the smelly liquid ones) at the point my shirt met my pants.

You might call some local vets about the robin, I have one near me that I take hurt wildlife to all the time. They do what they can and then take them to the wildlife shelters if they survive. There is also a bird expert in Centennial(I think) by the name of Jerry LaBonde who might know of a place near you or at least be able to give advice.

What kind of ACV do you all use. Just generic brand, Del Monte, or do you get the actual "good" stuff like Mother's. Someone told me that was one of the good ones.

And Hi Pichuris

My girls are very calming to me also. "Cheep" therapy

Cecal poops are the worst :sick

The first time my chicks made one of those I thought they were sick it smelled so bad. No, they were fine, WE were sick(ened).

I thought my little robin was dead when I got home because I couldn't hear anything at all and the box was still. I lifted up the cover fearing the worst, only to be greeted by a pair of little black eyes staring me down. When I took the bird outside it just sat in the box for a few moments so I thought it was still hurt. When I reached in, it took off like a rocket across the yard to the neighbor's tree, scolding me all the way! Best possible outcome for my injured robin:

I am glad the bird is okay.

My girls had the Cecal poops up till about a week ago really bad but they seam to have gotten much better lately.
