Wow, look at the beautiful white speckled egg I got today!

I have no idea who laid it....it looks Pinker than my Golden Comets eggs, and theirs are either solid or with a little dark brown spots...and this egg is huge compared to them. There was a comet egg in the normal nest box and this one was in the one next to it. Just another step in the process of learning how to lay eggs, or do I have another really young layer already??

Here's another shot I took when I got in from the coop.

That's a store bought xl white egg for comparison. A typical brown egg I've been getting from my two Golden Comet pullets, and the new huge speckled one.

Is it possible the speckled egg could have come from the same chicken that laid the brown one on the left? Because if not that means one of my not-quite-14-week-old Easter Eggers must have laid it!!!! I thought I'd have another few months before they started laying!

That would sure be a giant egg for a 14 week old pullet...I’d probably bank on one of your girls who are already laying. It is strange, but it’s a super pretty egg! One of my hens occasionally lays eggs with white speckley calcium deposits, but it’s never that many!

Well, the two that are laying already are pretty young too...almot 18 weeks old. They have been laying for a little over a week now. That's why I thought maybe it was just a weird "learning how to make eggs" occurrence from one of them. But not only are there Speckles, the colour of the egg itself is quite different ...it's hard to tell in the pics but it's a pretty dusty rose whereas the others are a beautiful dark Caramel brown.

In any case, I'll eventually find out who laid it and maybe I'll even get more! This one is definitely going to be blown out and cherished!!

Oh, all of yours are young! Lucky you’re getting such large eggs! You’ll have to update us when you solve the mystery.

I had a Wyandotte that laid very large white-speckled eggs like that. You don't have a Wyandotte do you?

Mystery solved!

I watched one of my Golden Comets, Babette, lay this smler version of my pink speckled egg today. I guess she's just still trying to figure out this whole egg laying thing!

What's interesting is that I have two Golden Comets; Lucille is mostly orange whereas Babette has beautiful white lacing and feather details, so it seems only appropriate that her eggs have delicate white details too! I really hope she keeps laying them like this!

So hard to get a picture of this.... cream egg with white spots. It's one of my bantams. And each time I think I know which one the egg shape changes a bit and I question it. My Bantam Cochin layed more round golf balls and my Svart Hona x B Cochin were always egg shaped.
Maybe they both do it here and there. Maybe they are in it together to make me wonder. :gig

Haha...sneaky hens! Little vandals!

I think I might need to rename my girl Seurat...she's quite the pointilist! I love your egg...that's so cool...I've never seen eggs like these!
