Columbian silkies?

Chris, the lack of mottling is one reason some judges dislike calling them porcelain. I personally believe they do need the mottling added, and am working on it (and having a dickens of a time getting back to type!), but as an additional recessive gene, it takes time to get it into them in pure form.

I do believe that mottling will look less cohesive on soft silkie feathers than on harder non-silkied feathers.

Sonoran, thanks for taking the time to be patient with those of us who are new to the genetics of silkies. We all have to start somewhere and it's nice to know some one will answer us kindly. I hope we can pass on what we've learned in the same spirit someday.

Sonoran- what is you take on the columbian color? I would love too hear more opinions!

And everyone PLEASE keep it civil and respect everyones opinions. There are many different ways to get to a final result. I want to have fun working on this project and it seems like there are others interesed in it as well so PLEASE lets keep it light and fun!!!! Thanks in advance!

UPDATE! I contacted two people who are hatching these out and I am getting eggs from them so HOPEFULLY I will have some in the next month! I will keep everyone posted on them.

A proper columbian silkie would be awesome! Genes needed are Co/Co S/S. Can be built on e^b or E^Wh base. Change S to s+ and you have buff columbian. Add blue or lavender and you have coronation (originally built on blue in England, re-built with lavender in Australia).

Updated my post (#22) of the splash lemon columbian silkie. Everyone should be able to see it now

Here is another boy. He has all silkie features except feathering; he does have quite a lot of gold leakage (he's S/s+):

I have a matching girl, but she is much clearer. Also another boy. Between them I hope for some pure silkie babies with silkie feathering. All three have all the other requisite silkie traits.

How cool!! Thanks for posting them! Your birds and color projects never cease to amaze me! I am getting some eggs from the same breeder that Sam got his from. So I HOPE I hatch out a pair. SHe said they are coming out of her whites. So funny you said that about the coronations...I was thinking that also! I do have a few buffs too...oh the possibilities!!! I better not put the cart before the horse though, the eggs are not even here yet!

Thanks for the great info Sonoran!

So I think I finally got my hands on a light columbian silkie rooster!!! YAY!
