I was just editing some pictures for an ad and noticed that this chick might have Columbian coloring. Its from a buff x grey cross. Is this a Columbian Silkie?
I was told today by the fellow that bought the above chick that it is a Columbian after all and a rooster, darn it! It seems that he has several roosters in this color and is having a hard time finding hens.
I have a rooster that's almost a columbian. lol Someone recomended finding him a columbian hen and using him for breeding. I was totally shocked by that news! lol I didn't think he was THAT special.
I mean he is special to me, but I never imagined he'd be worthy of actually breeding for something, especially for the columbian color. He's just my little pet rooster.
Honestly, I don't know. lol Someone on the Silkie thread pointed out that he could be used for Columbian breeding. I think it's his color though. He doesn't perfectly fit the columbian standard but would be worth breeding with columbian hens to see what he'd produce. I wish I had a hen to breed him with!
I do not know anyone working on columbian. There may be, I am just not aware of anyone. Columbian-ish looking birds tend to pop up occasionally from grey breeding or from cross-breeding silver ground birds. Boys are much more common than girls, and I've never seen one with really good hackle markings--usually just the ends, not all the way up.
Good luck on finding a pullet or hen to work with.
I found somebody on Facebook, can't remember the farm's name... They're keeping all hens this year. That figures! lol Maybe I'll be lucky and they'll have something next year.
