It’s coming along slowly, because
A: My husband works full time
B: We have also been busy planting in our orchard, building new gardens etc.

But here is the progress that got made this weekend. I have included a picture of each side and have marked the windows and door with pink so you could see where they will be going.

This is the west side and it will have the chicken door for the chickens to come in and out of. It has two windows. Both will be sliding windows for ventilation if needed

This is the north side. It’s the side with the clearstory. And it will have a small door where I can shovel the poop from the coop directly into the compost pile. It also has two windows that will be able to open. Then you have the east side with one window that opens. And last but not least the south side which will have the door, and also a window that will be able to open (have yet to decide how big it will be) and the window has another purpose that I will share once the coop is complete! And the three windows that are marked at the top will be in the clear story and will be opening windows for ventilation.


And not shown in the pictures is the fact that we dug the trench and placed the piping for electricity and WiFi.

Update: my husbands work picked up, and I’ve had some medical procedures requiring me to take a break, so we’ve had to put off the coop. We are hoping to have it done by fall.

Got some sheeting put up. Have yet to cut the windows/door out of the sheeting, but we got one window in.

There are 2 sheets of siding on the side, that is 8' not 10. Hmm, is hubby in the habit of fudging about the sizes of things? It's a great looking coop but it is not as big as he says it is. Hmmm

Now I have been wrong before, feel free to prove me wrong with a tape measure. Then check anything else hubby may have exaggerated on the size of.....

Size matters.

No, I found out he made it smaller. He didn’t think it’d be a big deal until I explained to him why it needed to be the size I wanted it. It wasn’t a big deal, I ended up selling some of our flock due to some life changes coming up. And unfortunately we ended up with way more roosters than the 1 we wanted, so they had to go as well.

Getting closer. We are rethinking our ventilation.. the three windows in the clear story will open, as well as every other window in the coop, I believe. I know we need ventilation up high.. will the windows be enough? Can I open them during winter?
