Hello folks! I have three chickens who are looking for a home. Two are laying hens, and one is a rooster who I JUST found out is a rooster. I just heard him attempt a crow, but he has not yet got his crow. So, if you would like these birds, please let me know. you can CALL me at 203-981-0799. I will edit this post when they are gone to remove my phone number. I am in Norwalk, CT and you will have to travel here to get them. let me know you are a BYC member and saw the ad here, they will be free to BYC folks. The two laying hens are 1 bantam lavender americauna who lays a small blue egg 4 out of 5 days, 1 rhode island cross (feed store bird, lays daily a giant brown egg). See pics below.
Maybe it's just me but your rhode island red looks like a red sex link golden comet - I have 4 of them and they are egg laying maniacs - rarely miss a day
That could be, but the feed store told me that she was a rhode island cross. You are right that she is an egg laying machine, however. HUGE brown eggs, every single day.

Hey, anyone with advice for 1 month old chicks with nasal discharge? I don't hear any sneezing, and I tried listening to their chests and don't hear anything unusual (never having listened to the chest of a healthy chick though, I don't have much for comparison!). Two now have enough discharge that their nares are getting blocked (I cleaned them up this morning, hopefully it will last for a bit). Those two are now opening and closing their beaks to assist in breathing it looks like. A third has some 'wet' nares but nothing building up; the other 2 chicks show no signs of a problem. There was some 'rusty' poop yesterday but I couldn't figure out who had it and I haven't seen it since.
Any idea what this is, and what to do? When I tried looking up 'nasal discharge' every entry talks about sneezing too, and I haven't heard that. They've been out on the grass a few times - no other chickens have been there, and no chemicals on the grass. But they're still inside in the brooder 99% of the time...
Any help is appreciated. They all seem normally active. clear eyes, clear vents, even one with wet nostrils and the 2 with nasal discharge buildup and gaping beaks...
