I got an egg for the first time since starting this whole chicken keeping thing!
Ours lay all year without light added, which we find strange, but we ain't complaining!Congrats! Exciting, isn't it? Mine stopped last month, but we rigged up some LED Christmas lights on a timer (~15-16 hours) and they started laying again just a few days ago.Who says chickens can't appreciate the holidays, too?![]()

Red stars, speckeld sussex, white rocks, barred rocks, silkies (believe it or not), and welsummers.Lucky! What breed?
UGH! WINTER!
I hope everyone is battened down and buttoned up tight! Of all the winter weather, I absolutely abhor the "wintery mix" forecast! Fed some scratch and warm oatmeal tonight, a little pre-apology. I'm not excited to be glared/cussed at tomorrow when I open the coop and those girls see what I have done to the weather.
Stay warm, dry and draft-free everyone!
