Hey Connecticut peeps! I have a question....

My coop is still in the process of been built. I will not be able to get Buff Orpington 1day old chicks (females) until the 2nd week of September, because I will be going away the beginning of Sept and I do not want to get chicks now and then have to leave them. Is September to late in the season to order chicks? Would it be best to wait until Spring.

What are your thoughts on this? I need advice.

Thank you in advance.

What's this and can I take my chickie to the fair?

I was giving our Reserve Champion Wellie a bath for the fair and noticed she had a scab on the bottom of her foot. It was loose and fell of easily in my hands. What remains is a bit of a hole that is black - but it looks like dirt/sand in there. What is this? How can I best clean it out? Is she OK to go to the fair? Will she be DQ'd?

I don't think it will be to late to get them the first week in September. We got ours last year on August 24. They were ready to go into the coop by mid-October and that gave them plenty of time to get used to the weather. They did just fine in our Little Tikes Coop in that horrid winter we had last year. Your Buffies should be fine.
