What's this and can I take my chickie to the fair?

I was giving our Reserve Champion Wellie a bath for the fair and noticed she had a scab on the bottom of her foot. It was loose and fell of easily in my hands. What remains is a bit of a hole that is black - but it looks like dirt/sand in there. What is this? How can I best clean it out? Is she OK to go to the fair? Will she be DQ'd?
Tina that looks like a partial healed old puncture wound. I do not know if it would be a DQ or not. Check the web and in the meantime clean it gently not a scrubbing to avoid irritation and once clean pat dry and apply black drawing salve. Ask your pharmacy if they have any ithmal (sp) it will draw out debris and infection. You will have to keep that wound dry and clean. You'll be amazed at how quickly it will heal up
