Hawkeye-Congrats on the chick! So cool. I still have to go down the basement to check DH's quail to see if mor hatched. I sure hope so! I just woke up a bit ago. On the Chicken Mary's thing.... I wasn't the one to make the reservations. Gonna visit my sis (new plans) Some of her DH's family made reservations at Chicken Mary's, but now some of them can't go so when we said we were going to come visit we were invited into the group. We've driven by Chicken Annie's so many times on the way to Checoukan's and I've always wanted to stop. The timing has just never been right. We will do that someday!

Okay, I have a BYC for idiots question. So may of you do "multiple quotes" in a post. I must not be doing it right because I end up loosing my post or locking up my computer and then loosing my post. How the heck do you do it?

On the fruit tree thing, it reallly varies between cultivars, and yes, you can get fruit the first year on some trees, but generaly it's not much. In general your dwarf trees will fruit sooner than your regular sized trees. Also, generally speaking, most apple trees will polinate another apple tree, but it may not be true in all cases, and it certainly may not be true with other types of fruit trees. Even self polinators will often benefit and fruit more with another polinator. Sometimes you can luck out and if the wind is in your favor benefit from the polinating tree that happens to be planted in a neighbors yard or even several yards away. Personally, I think it's worth the time and effort to plant the correct polinator.

Have you been to Chicken Mary's before? They are pretty good, too! But when you go to Chicken Annies... you won't go back to CM's. hehe!! OKay, I just hit the "multi" quote button and move on down to read the next post and then click that "multi" button if I am responding to that one, too. YOu can even click to the next page to read and it will save all your "multi's" from the page before! Maybe your computer isn't cashing it or whatever it's called. It might be too slow or the connection too slow.. ?? I have no idea! But it's likely you are doing it right. When I'm done hitting the "multi's" I want, then I just click on ANY post and hit "Reply". It won't reply to that quote that you clicked on unless you inculded it into the multi-- so it's not a big deal to just click Reply on anything and have all your quotes brought up that you selected. I hope that makes sense! I'm not always the best at explaining things!

So exciting that your quail hatch is going so well! They are soooo adorable! And yes-- I TOTALLY agree it's worth it to buy the correct pollinator trees the first time around. I have always done that. I just don't want to chance it. But there again, it's also just as likely that if you pick out 3 trees, they will also pollinate each other. With apples, they are really easy. But with cherries, etc... it's a little harder to match them up. I keep all my tree tags in a drawer here at the house. That way I can pull out their tags and see what variety they are years later if I forget. I can also double check their pollinators on the back of the tag or google them if I am wondering about them.

Honestly, I find the whole thing so much fun!! I really enjoy growing!

I've always just pressed the "multi" button underneath every post I wanted to quote. Then, I just pressed the "post a reply" button at the bottom of the page.

Tweety-AW! So cute... dirty or not! Twist tie legband?

This made me laugh.. because - no. It's a piece of pine shaving. LOL.. see dirty! LOL

Tweety, oh they are sooo adorable!! And yeah, I did have to laugh-- they are a mess!! LOL!!! They must go bathing in their food. I'm sure when they get outside, they will get all cleaned up. They are too small to bathe. If you do want to give them a bath, wait until they are at least 3-4 months old. :) They have great color-- they are beautiful!

Yeah, not gonna bathe them, but I sure want to! LOL I really have no clue what they do to get it stuck to their face, but the waterer is always filled with pine shavings and feed mush, so I think they are playing like they are ducks and bringing it to the waterer.. Silly birds.

I fed them some egg yolk the other night and it was sooo cute! They all grabbed a piece and ran in circles almost mosh-pitting until they started eating. I'm going to take them outside for the first time today after work!

If I don't have time to reply to the multi (which is the case sometimes in the er - I've never had it lock up on me), but I will just copy and paste the whole reply into a word document as I'm reading, so I can leisurely go back and reply throughout the morning. then I paste the replies back into this reply box and send. Maybe you can try that.

Yep, same here. LOL. I also tend to edit the post of the person I am quoting both to the keep the length of the posts down and to make it clearer what part of the person's post I am replying to. For example, in your (Ivy's) quote above, there were three paragraphs but I am only responding to the question about quoting, so I deleted the other two paragraphs.

Ooops....by saying I edit the quote, I didn't mean I change what they said - I just delete out the parts of their post that I am not referencing in my response.

I was gone all day yesterday and didn't get a chance to stay caught up. Tried to get read the ahem, several PAGES of posts I had missed last night but was getting too sleepy so I had to shut it down and by this morning there were even more.

First,

GinnyLea. As others of said, there are lots of us in the Wichita area so glad you could join us. We've even talked about the possibility of a meet-up for the Wichita folks sometime soon.

Trish, I'm not sure what to call the offspring of the black sexlinks. I don't think they can be technically called black sexlinks at this point, so its probably more accurate to call them barnyard mixes, and yeah, you would need to sell them straight run.

Its a good thing the dogs don't go in the house if they've been skunked. Oh my, that's an awful smell, isn't it? Several years ago my horse was colicking so DH and I spent the night walking him, dogs in tow. After awhile DH said "what's that smell?" The thing is, it really didn't smell like skunk - it smelled sort of sulphery. We thought it was where we were walking but the smell followed us. Yep, the dogs had been skunked. We even saw the culprit later, running along a line of trees. When my horse was stable and we were getting ready to head home, there was no way those dogs were going in my car with us so we locked them in a stall and next morning brought back two cans of tomato juice to bathe them in. I have to say, all the reports of its effectiveness were for nought - it had no impact on them. Over the next few days I tried everything, including several home remedies I read about on the internet, but in the end, time was the only thing that really fixed them. I didn't let the dogs in the house for three weeks and since they are indoor dogs they were unhappy about that, but I just couldn't stand the idea of that smell getting in my carpet or furnishings. Even after we were over the worst, I have to say, any time the dogs got wet for MONTHS after that, I would smell it again. Really powerful defense those skunks have, eh?

Okay...this is a new one on me. What is......mosh-pitting?
HEHE.. Sorry - the language of a wife of a former rock-star. LOL. Mosh-pitting is where people, during a band playing, run into circles, check bumping, pushing, and generally act rowdy and unruly - running over anything in their path. That's what they were doing. Running around and screaming with food in their mouth as if they'd had their heads cut off! LOL. it was hilarious!
