Karen, you made me LOL! My mom does MOPS, too, and she said the same thing -- where was this when her kids were little?
I appreciate the comments on the pros and cons of buying this new place. Unfortunately, we were too late. DH called and it was a foreclosure house. Instead of trying to sell it the conventional way, they opened up a period of time for taking bids. That window was already closed by the time we were able to speak to the man handling it. If we get lucky, no one will have offered a high enough bid; there's some rule about throwing out any bid that isn't within a certain percentage of the already good asking price. Somehow, I think at least one of those 11 bidders will have gotten it right. I really did love the property, just not the house. I was seeing what I could do with the land, but not yet with the house. I would have loved not being in a town; I know what you all mean when you're talking about sitting on the deck just enjoying the surroundings. I also know what you mean, Ivy, about leaving a place you've put so much into. We've put in 10 years and lots of hard work and money here, and to leave it for a house we weren't sure of was one of our concerns. This one felt like home the minute we walked in. I was looking forward to getting some "Welsh Summers" at the other place, though.
Chickies & Hawkeye, we have a catalpa tree in the back yard; it was the one I'd ever seen. It can be messy, but I love how it smells when it's flowering, and when the flowers drop, it looks like we had a popcorn accident all over the back yard. Why would anyone "joke" about having seedlings when he doesn't? That's not funny at all, just stupid.
Ivy, I know what you mean about the pictures. If it's something that can't be retaken 5 times until I've gotten it right, I make DH take the pictures. I don't if I would have had the guts to tell my boss it was my dogs that tore up hers. It's good that she realized it wasn't something you could have prevented and that her dog was where it shouldn't have been, and I'm glad her dog will be OK.
Hawkeye, I love the ugly phase when chicks are half fuzz and half tiny feathers sticking out. That silkie was darn cute. A few years ago I could have given you tons of black walnut seedlings. DH cut the tree down because my lips swell up if I eat black walnuts and he was sick of battling the mess it made all over the deck and yard.
HEChicken, the Craig's list ad is gone, but it sure was funny...the dog can go too! DH and I look at everything from storage sheds to children's playhouse as a potential chicken coop. Having chickens has really warped our thought process.
Trish, I'm glad your granddaughter was able to get her tooth fixed, but what a heartbreaking thing to watch her be so upset about her dad leaving.
Lizzy, maybe you could market duck juggling and chasing as a workout program!
Danz, my nieces used to go around the yard gathering up catalpa beans, grass and flowers to arrange on frisbies (or in the dogs' water bowl) as "dinner." They were pretty artistic with their plating, too! Those birds are gorgeous, wow. I hope your back gets better; I had sciatic pain and some other problems for 2 years. I'm still having problems with my lower back, but it's so nice not to have the sciatica because it's just miserable. Be careful getting that load of feed; we all seem to have a tendency to come home with feed AND chicks ...
Tweety, what cute little fluffballs, even if they are dirty! Your mosh-pitting chicks reminded me of the first time I threw a grub in the chicken pen. We had 7 chickens at the time and they all ran in, grabbed a mouthful and ran off in different directions. In about a second and a half, that grub had been divided into 7 pieces and completely disappeared.
Ginnylea, welcome! Pictures are always good.
Avery, your DH is a hoot with his convoluted reasoning. I think I'd pose dilemmas to him just hear his responses!
We mowed a little yesterday then worked a bit at the community garden. I pulled the last of the first planting of radishes (including some Easter Egg radishes that look like lavender carrots!) and we planted a butternut squash. Our evenings are free again because DH and our nephew got the car fixed last night and he was able to return home! He and his girlfriend are very happy and it cost them a tiny fraction of the $600 the mechanic shop was estimating. Today I'm making a graduation cake for another nephew. It's cooling right now and I scanned and enlarged the Viking from his invitation. Hopefully I can make something that looks like it on the cake!
Whew! Made it through 60+ posts, although there have probably been 10 more since I started this reply.
Oh my gosh JosieChick, don't tell me that. Do you sell hatching eggs? (Say no, please say no.) But really, do you?![]()
