Consolidated Kansas

Hey there,
So much more activity level here, I may start posting here! lol

You guys already have chickies and stuff in your stores, hmm? Ours dont come to Orschelns for another couple of weeks yet but they are setting up for them.

CarolAnn, how much were there turkey poults running? Ours here are usually 12 or so, so its too pricey for me.

Oh and Renee, my stepson had been takin care of the chooks over the winter, went out there during last weeks warmup to chat with everyone and check on them. (I dont go out there too much in cold as my asthma kicks up bigtime).

Well I was SO aggravated. Splash had some frostbite on the points of his comb.

I guess must have been a little too much moisture buildup, cuz he had a warm coop and nice pen with his ladies nestled next to him. I have one other roo that suffered some too but he was in a colder coop, one on the north side and in with two ducks, so his was understandable.
So Mr. Splash looks not so perfect now, but he is still a gorgeous guy and so so nice and sweet tempered. He has filled out lots. I flet bad that I let him get frostbite tho.

Sis went out to close up the birdies last night as I had a tummy ache. What a difference. She was telling where everyone slept, who was on what roost, etc. Stepson never even did headcounts and it aggravated me no end!

Oh my God! Oh my God! Today I just finished my first batch of maple syrup! AHHHHHHHHHHH! I have never tasted in my life such beauty! If you have not gone to Leaderevaporator.com and ordered your tree taps; you all really should. Daren provided a site for instructions on a past post. It really dosent matter that he busted my chops the other day, because he didnt read what i posted it really dosent; Daren has shared a tallent and craft that all of us could use.
I have learned a great many things with my 10 taps; first if its in the sun it runs sap sooner. Second species like my Aprocots are not doing a thing yet. Trees in the shade/ north of the barn are producing much less sap.
Watching the process happen in a sause pan has taught me that this is the carmalization of maple/ tree sugars (most cooking shows show this process, if you need more call or email) over a period of time that it takes to evaporate the excess water. Do this on a wood stove and (I am not sure you can beat heaven) I know it will be awesome.
Dont think just order your taps and get them soon!
AH my friends its heaven!

. Mike I think you may have hit the nail on the head. heating element or t-stat.

Hoping to buy a new one soon. I fried all my eggs . AGAIN NO BIG SURPRISE!!!!!! The temp in the house went to 70º the bator was between 103º & 106º if it was in the very low 50's the bator would drop to 96.6º. the issue with my house is that the temps in the house seem to fluctuate so much with using wood heat

Heya, Jill!!

I'm not surprised he got frostbite- fact is some birds tuck and others don't. When it gets brutal out like it did during that nasty cold spell, they'll get damage unless they tuck!

I have several who got terribly burnt, and others that look great- and I just figure that's how it works. He'll be fine, and I'm sure he will still love you bunches!!

Changing the subject again. A coworker is looking for 2-3 banties. He would like to have "older" birds, not chicks from the feed store. He has a few at home but was thinking about expanding his flock.

Does anyone in the southeast Kansas area have any available? Thanks!

My sister lives near Columbus and she has a nice assortment of bantems. Some of her bantems are AWESOME. She cleans house at the local shows, but generally doesn't travel to the larger shows. I think she is wanting to downsize some of her bantems, so if you are interested PM me and I will send you her contact info.

So is there anyone here that would be willing to hatch some eggs for me? I dont have a bator at this time and the hours I work are just to hard to get home. I would like to order some Eggs but I have no way to get this done. I would be willing to give a bit of $ or something in trade!!!!! I'm thinking as early as next week. (MAYBE)

Any help would be great!
I'm also willing to drive a bit to have this done. THANK YOU ALL!

I just set some duck eggs in my bator or I'd do it for you. If you'd like, I can ask a friend if he's interested. He lives in South Olathe.
