Consolidated Kansas

What cha got on the spit there Daren? Looks fairly edible... BTW, Fat Daddy was the name of my competition BBQ team 10 years or so ago... I picked up a few ribbons and such, cooked for a lot of drunks mostly thou. Something about fire'in up a smoker brings the "drunk" out in some folks.

Oh my gosh, no! I wouldn't shoot a deer out of season. They are pretty easy to run off. HOWEVER.... during season... you bet. I EAT venison year round. I only shoot during season, and yes, during June any does might have fawns in the woods. Repercussions for shooting a deer illegally outweighs more cucumbers than I could ever grow.

Every vehicle my husband and I have owned has hit a deer at one time or another, except the jeep we just bought last month. Even the ones we hit we butcher and eat. Report the accident to the sherrif or game warden, get a carcass tag and take them home. Any meat that is not good can be used for dog food, and the deer is not left to rot on the side of the road or nearby field.

Just out of curiousity I emailed KDW and asked about releasing trapped predators. Here's the response I got.

You may release them as long as you have permission from the landowner. You may not release trapped animals onto property that is owned or managed by the state.

I went over to Atwoods to price some things and came home with some fluffy butts. Chicken math got me again. I don't know what they are but they are adorable. Here are some pics of them.
All five of them

Cute. The first one looks maybe like a BO? Second I'm not sure. Last one could be a BA or BR? Sorry - I'm not that good at guessing either. I'm staying away from Atwoods at the moment because when I was there last week they were setting up for the chicks and I heard the employee say they were getting the first shipment on Wednesday or Thursday. I cannot bring home more chicks. Therefore my only other option is to just stay away.

I planned to stay away too. That's why I went today. I figured that they wouldn't get them in for another week or so. Obviously, that plan backfired. Oh well, at least the kids will be entertained until they are able to go outside.

I've already been into Orscheln's to look at the chicks. I'm not buying but I do enjoy looking. They had some itty bitty Bronze turkeys that were sure cute. When they get ducks in I may have a problem. Still I'm not buying. The ducks are so adorable. Is it true that ducks in the garden will eat bugs and not the plants? I just heard that today and have big doubts.
