Its sort of like bumblefoot but she is in to much pain Orr to weak to stand and her wattle coloring is very pale I'm misserable I have tried so hard for the last 4 weeks to get her betterand It worked but the infection spread

I have one hen who lays weird eggs. They are thinner shelled and often so soft that they break as they are in the nest. She will also drop eggs off the roost in the middle of the night on occasion. All the others (except Hermoine who appears to be eggbound for the last couple of days) lays normal shelled eggs, so I think it is a function of her system not a lack of calcium.

I give the girls crushed eggshell in a dish in the coop and oyster shell in a dish in the run, so they have access to the stuff if they need it.

Well, back to Hermoine. I'm thinking about a nice warm soak for her. I think it is probably hopeless, but I have to try

We do. We used to have it in a separate container but lately DH has just mixed it in with their food. It bothered him that as soon as we'd put it out, Ruby would go in and kick it all over the place.

Only one bird is laying eggs like this. The others are normal and have nice, thick shells. Either that one bird isn't eating the oyster shell or it's Old Sophia and her eggs have gotten quite a bit smaller. We decided a while back Old Sophia has some kind of problem, probably with her reproductive tract. She looks fat and she loses feathers around that area. She's laid odd looking eggs for a year or so now. They were large, elongated and with darker and lighter patches on the surface of the shell. I didn't see any eggs I thought were hers for a while, so maybe these are.

I agree-- Rooster is funny!! So glad we have Rooster, Pikeman and WichitaKidd to keep us ladies entertained!

Awesome, thanks! I tried using the calculator and it kept telling me I'd get all black offspring. But, I don't know how to do all the settings, so who knows, lol. I was just curious anyway, since I don't have any black. No, I didn't check the Marans thread, I don't have any Marans those colors and I get irritated having so many threads update in my email. That's neither here nor there, though. I appreciate the info, thank you

Wow, the barring on them is really striking!
Oh and guess what-- after I said that, I remembered that lavender is also used for the Porcelian/Isabel project that they are now calling Self Blue Creme! But They are using Buff for that. I wonder if Chocloate would give you something along those lines, even though it would not technically be a porcelian or Isabel, you could create your own project color... now to get 100 other peep's working on it with you and you're set! LOL No but seriously, you could experiment and see what you get and if it's absolutely gorgeous, then try to get them breed TRUE with the color you got-- not with the parents. That's where you start into your F's... If none of them turn out the same, then you'd have to start back with your genetics on the original parents-- they could be carrying more than was expressed (more than is visible) and see what happened. I think that stuff sounds like tons of fun!!

It's been rotten and stressful to say the least. Thank you all for the support. The sheriff has called my DH and wants him to come by the station monday night to have a man to man talk about things. Our news cast has reached tennessee and is blowing up bigger than I ever thought. People are outraged to learn that this happened and the sheriffs response was to simply saw that the seputy acted as he should have, which in alot of peoples opinion was incorrect. Leaving an animal to suffer is not protocol in any way. So hopefully to dave face he wants to give us what we ask for which all we want is a formal apology from the sheriff for trying to smear our name in the mud and a personal apology from the deputy for shooting our pet and making him suffer. Well we will see on monday though.

My phoenix is on alot of eggs. Every morning she gets off to eat and drink and someone pops on to lay an egg and she waits patiently to get back on her nest. she is covering all the eggs as of now and I know there are more than 20 eggs under her. Should I leave her to them all?
So glad the news is spreading!

If you had bumblefoot on the pad of the foot, that can be really tough to get out. I do "surgery" on my feet to dig out the cyst and then treat with triple antibiotic and wrap the foot in vetwrap. THEN... if it was a bad infection, I start them on Penicillin injections. You are dealing with staph, and penicillin works well on that.

HeChicken-- OMGosh---- those bars on your Rocks are AMAZING!!! I wish my birds looked like that! Ugh. I'll go take a pic of mine. :(

OKay-- this is the mottling I am talking about in the chicks....
I took this picture just now-- a few minutes ago:

This is her (him??) two weeks ago:

I'm thinking this is a girl????? The other one has gold all over it and has much better bars on it. It's obviously a BOY. I didn't take pictures because the barring is actually pretty good. But there are soooo many gold feathers all over it-- looks like it was drizzled with rust.

Edited To Add: HeChicken-- these are NO comparison to your beauties!!
