Ah! Sunshine again! A bit breezy, and I know it will get cooler again as the day moves on, but I hear we'll have upper 70's by Friday!! Joy!!

If anyone is looking for birds in the NE area, I have about 10 breeds of chicks ages 2 days to 9 weeks that have to go! Silkies (pet quality); Silver and Gold Laced Wyandottes; White and Light Brown Leghorns; Blue, Black and Splash Banty Ameraucanas; Blue, Black, Splash, Buff and Pencilled Easter Eggers; Cuckoo Marans (clean-legged); Buff Laced Polish; Golden Lakenvelders; Spizhaubens; Blue and Black Andalusians; Jersey Giants, and Heaven knows there's some stuff I've forgotten.

I've been on a hatching spree and these are the results that I'm not keeping. Looks like I'll be moving my breeding facilities, so a bunch of birds I was going to breed will be going out into the world!

I've tried it and it came up with very little information. I was able to find family members in there some time ago but not for places or locations I need to pinpoint.

I also used Ancestory as well! Neat site!

this probably won't help, but i'm gonna throw it out there anyway....i'm originally from the south, and my first thoughts when i read "turpin station" was that ol' southern draw....that's how my grandfather would say "terrapin". since the time frame you're working with had many "uneducated" people, this could possibly be a misspelling of terrapin...just a thought.

Have to admit I thought the very same thing.

Fitzy, it may have been well the case of misspelling and so forth. Back in those days, they are not too focused on specifics LOL!

I have found a few census stating that they were located later in Owantonnie (sp) KS for a good ten years before they moved back to Illinois.

I am going to double check it to make sure we got the right Johnson family. Sometimes it comes up with nothing and others come up with something else.

Have you Central Kansans had rain today? They're calling for it here tomorrow, and I'm grumbly about it...I want it to continue being nice, darnit!
