Consolidated Kansas

The way I keep up is I get email notices from the sites I am subscribed to. I go to the threads directly from my email notice and it takes me to the first post after I was on the thread. It keeps me oriented!

My little splay-legged chick is doing great! He managed to slip out of his vet-wrap hobble, but I talked to my DH while I was at work. He said he was up and running around but that his toes were still very crooked. When I got home from work a few minutes ago I checked him again and I can't even tell which one he was. I tell ya, if you get a splay legged chick treating them with a vet wrap hobble works great!

Of course then I checked my incubator. I have another lavender ameraucana hatched!

I've had good luck hatching those, but they have slowed down on their laying. My wheaten ameraucanas are starting to lay pretty regular so I should be getting some of those to hatch before too long. I have a few more eggs to go into lockdown later today.

Danz-On the D.E. we bought it from the guy on ebay because no one around here sells it! We looked everywhere in about a 50 mile radius and found none. Compared to some of the other prices I've seen I didn't think that was a bad price for 50 lbs. Oh, and yes! I can't wait to see new pics of the pups with their eyes open. What can be cuter than a puppy? I can't think of anything!

You call yourself the crazy chicken lady... I guess that means you will fit right in here with the rest of us!

Stupid question alert:

Is there any coorelation between laying (by the whole flock) and the head hen molting? Every since my Campine, Scout, started molting about 2-3 months ago, there have been fewer eggs. She finally started laying again, and all of a sudden, I'm getting more eggs again. Is it just a coincidence, or is there some reason for it?

Sharol, since the egg laying in the whole flock decreased as most flocks do over the winter months I would think that it is more closely related to the short days and less sunlight issue. My flock has done the same thing and many of them are just now starting to lay again. I wouldn't think the other hen's egg laying would really be affected by the molting of the other hen, unless they were all going through a minor molt or something, which is possible. I would just attribute it to the winter time issue.

& the Consolidated Kansas thread!

How many Wichita people do we have on this thread? I know there are some who don't post much, but there must be several in the area.

Have any of you with GPs had any problem with them killing cats? We have had two dead cats found in the backyard today, the pups were chewing on them. DH is very upset because he loves cats, but I don't think the pups killed them personally. Our next door neighbor puts rat poison under their porch that just has a lattice covering it, so my inclination is to think that might be what happened to them & the pups just found them. Any ideas on this?

Welcome Shotah. I'm not sure on the cats trish but I'd watch those pups if they were chewing on possibly poisoned cats.
I just want to make sure how to do this tomorrow when I get the Ivomec for my OEs. What is the dosage for the for pour-on and injectable? ( the hens are 10 and 12 oz. and the cock is probably 14-16 oz.) And just confirming... The pour on goes in one "wing pit"? and if I have to get the injectable it's subque (just under the skin) in the "wing pit"? I will have to get either the cattle pour on or the cattle/swine injectable, just to specify.

I'm trying to catch up- so reading back aways- It does have to be "food Grade" right. I had some ordered from a place in pratt several years ago.
Premier Farm Supply in Topeka had it last year in 50's. I can't say for now, but they are on the Internet, so you could call if you want to go that far.

I also like the BR and wyndts but they sure do pick a lot. I have one going broody right now(BR) she is even more aggressive..

Cherwill here is a pic of the roo and some hens.
If my figuring is right crossing him and the BR will get me black sex link layers. I'm not sure what I would get from the red sex link and him - not sex links but maybe good layers. If you ever need more chicks and you want either layers or silkies just let me know.
