Consolidated Kansas

I don't think the dogs would kill a cat. Simply because in the case of my cats, one warning swipe with a clawed foot and the dogs give the cats room. The only exception might be if a cat ran and it was tempting to chase it as pups might try. I suppose they could accidentally kill a cat but it's not at all likely. I'd say your neighbors poison would probably be the culprit.

Yes Molli did do in a couple cats as she grew up. She didn't really kill them on purpose but rather carried them around and in turn injured them. She would have them between her front paws and they would just lay there and let her lick them.. but those were the ones that disappeared tho.. so I'm sure in her "mothering" she did kill them, one I know for sure died cuz she wouldn't let me have it right away she was still "mothering " it. ick! She chases the 4 we still have -that survived- then they rub up on her and get lovin right back. she has a lot of traits from the german shepherd

& the Consolidated Kansas thread!

How many Wichita people do we have on this thread? I know there are some who don't post much, but there must be several in the area.

Have any of you with GPs had any problem with them killing cats? We have had two dead cats found in the backyard today, the pups were chewing on them. DH is very upset because he loves cats, but I don't think the pups killed them personally. Our next door neighbor puts rat poison under their porch that just has a lattice covering it, so my inclination is to think that might be what happened to them & the pups just found them. Any ideas on this?

Hey all! Shana the Crazy Chicken Lady from Marion here. Right now I have Buff Orpies, RI Reds, a black Bearded Silkie, a Barred Bantam Cochin, and a Bantam Sultan. I can't wait for my new chicks this year--BC Marans, Welsummers, a Barnevelder, SL Wyandottes, plus Ameraucanas, Black Stars, and possibly a starter batch of broilers. Pleased to meet you all :)

I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!!!!! hehe!! And the picture in your avatar is my favorite picture of you! LOL!! I hope that isn't too weird... I just thought the story of your broody silkie was so funny. :)

Trish, MsFrizzle is also in Wichita. :) I've met her-- she's AWESOME!! We spent an afternoon getting muddy and dirty in the creek chasing down frogs and tadpoles.

Okay-- I have TWO silkie eggs so far sitting on my counter top. Waiting to get a couple more and then I'll put them in the incubator. Is that right??? Those eggs aren't going to go bad sitting there, are they? Or should I put them in now??? What all do you do? OH, and I've been turning them on the counter. They aren't in direct light or heat. They feel fairly cool to the touch right now.

I'm thinking Danz or Ivy can answer this... but ever since that pigeon I took in died... there has been another pigeon sitting on my pergola every night and it hangs around during the day. I'm starting to feel really bad for it. Like I said-- I never see pigeons out here! What is this pigeon doing here?? I've been out to talk to it every evening and it doesn't come down to me, but it does sit there and eye ball me and sits comfortably up there. It doesn't seem afraid of me. The kids were out there playing basketball and riding around on their bikes and making a TON of noise.. and that pigeon just didn't budge! I thought for sure the racket would scare it off. Do you think it is looking for the pigeon that died on me? It looks like the same coloring, etc. Ideas? Should I try to feed it?

and my counter top eggs... are those okay? I didn't get an egg today like I had hoped. :( Maybe tomorrow.

I think its a good idea to store them with the big end up and then turn them a couple of times a day, even before you start incubating. I usually hear to store them around 60. So perhaps the coolest room in your house, in a carton with the big end up and turn them morning and night until you're ready to start incubating? (Note: this info is gleaned from research - not personal experience since I have never been able to incubator my own eggs to this point).

I guess there are a few of us around then. A new poster by the name WichitaKidd just joined and I saw his intro in the new members section a week or two ago - haven't seen him on here yet though.

I used to hear a rooster crowing when I was in my backyard a couple of years ago. I haven't heard it in awhile though so I wonder if the neighbor's patience wore thin....
