send me some eggs! :) He's caving!

Hawkeye, here are some pictures.Top is the cockerel that is with these two hens. Then the two hens one would not let me take her picture.

Tweety I will have tons of them. Anconas or cayugas or mixed like this little guy. I haven't even looked at what hatched today. I think they are all Cayuga except a couple crosses. I sell cheap! I am starting to get attached to this little guy. He just spends all of his time sitting in my lap. If I don't pick him up when I'm in here here he wont shut up.
It is really storming here now. Major thunderstorm.
I just sold a few chicks and a couple of hens. At least this gal showed up!

Danz, that duck is just the cutest thing ever! So sweet that he's so attached to you! I hope the new duckie playmates being hatched will give him some company. But I bet it sure is nice to have him be so sweet. I was seriously shocked that my escapees ran to me and waited to be picked up! They were my barred rocks and Wyandottes. So sweet! No running after them, the first one just sort of crouched a bit and waited at my feet. She was feeling pretty lost, I think. It's helped that I go out there and throw BOSS in their run almost every day and talk to them. They know I'm the good guy. Congrats on your sale tonight!!

Are they laying yet? That crouching sure sounds like the egg squat! If she isn't already laying she will be very soon! If it is the squat she sees you as the rooster and is waiting for you to breed her. I always just pet mine on the back and they stand up, shake, and walk off.

TNT-I do the same thing. When the young hens squat in front of me I reach down, give their back a little rough scratch and shake. They stand back up and do the little "rooster shake" just like they really got something.

I know I must be sick!

It sounds to me like Hawkeye's birds were scared and ready to be saved from the storm. Giving them treats such as BOSS sure helps in making them your friends.

HEChicken-I hope your new place in the country works out well for you. We love being out here. I don't think my DH could ever live in the city. I'm adaptable. I think I could live about anywhere, but in the country with lots of woods is my preference.

Checoukan-Man! We need to get you some show cages built. Your little cockerell is so nice, but you can tell his feathers have been roughed up from the wire cage. Sure wish we lived closer. I'd build that thing for ya. Maybe you could put some cardboard in there up against the wire at least temporarily, and just high enough that his tail doesn't hit the wire.

I just came in from the barn. We got caught out there when it started raining. I lost one chick in the brooder I built.

Lavender ameraucana. He got caught under the feeder. Design error, I guess. I decided right then and there that I am going to do some modifications on the thing and make it so all the feeders mount to the outside front of the brooder. I think I've figured out exactly how I'm going to do it, it will be a matter of getting the time to do it.

My little silver duckwing old english hatched!

Wow! He is such a little cutie. He's still too wet to get out of the hatcher. I guess it will be tomorrow before I get him out.

Are you doing it firmly? I do it a little harder than I normally pet them.

I *think* so. I've scritched them behind the neck and in front of the tail and do it almost kind of rough like a rooster would. They always keep squatting as long as I'm touching them and even after I remove my hand, they keep squatting like they're saying "is that all ya got? THAT didn't feel like the real thing?" until I walk away from them. LOL. Mind you, I only have a couple that squat for me at all - mostly my BO's. Which is weird because they are the two on the top of the pecking order but the rest never squat at all.

Wow, took me a while to get caught up!

Danz, I'm sorry about your parents. I'll keep them in my thoughts. Post all the doggie and birdie pictures you want. I love seeing everyone's pets. Marshmallow doesn't look TOO skinny; you took great care of her and the pups.

Tweety, I'm sympathizing with the tree cutting. We've lost some giant limbs in ice storms, and we also take all the free trees we can find around here. There are always people who will let us have the wood for free as long as we cut it up and haul it away and clean up afterward. Not fun.

Ivy, congratulations! You have plenty to be proud of.

OK, so I don't pay attention to the news or weather for days at a time, so I had no idea a storm was a'comin'.

DH and I had taken the recycling out a couple of days ago and then went grocery shopping. I guess we got sidetracked when we were unloading because all the groceries made it in the house, but the recycling tubs were still sitting outside by the basement door when the storm hit. They're still there. My birds did have the good sense to go in the coop when the hail hit, though they usually stay out much of the time if it's only raining.

I didn't know about the storm either, Cherwill. I had to take DD to a physio appt and it was thundering a little "in the distance" as we were getting ready to go. While driving (4 mins from the house), a few large rain drops hit the windshield. I parked in front of the physio about the time the skies opened up. Getting DD in and out of the car is an ordeal at the moment as her leg is in a brace and she can't bend at the knee, so there was no way to "quick get out of the car and run into the office". So we had to wait it out in the car, with the physio looking out the window at us, only 6 feet away! Once the hail died down, I got her out and we went in to start her physio workout/treatment. I'm just glad there is no hail damage to my car - that would have made it a REALLY expensive physio appt!
