Consolidated Kansas

OK, I hope someone can answer this for me, the one I got from Bluestem was Duramycin-10; but of course it gives it for the whole package; which is 6.4 oz. It mixes 100 gal containing 100 mg of tetracycline hydrochloride a gallon etc etc. down to 12.5 gal containing 800 mg of tetr hyd.

It says for turkeys you want a dosage of 400 mg per gallon per day
For chickens 400-800 mg per gallon per day....

So, how much do I mix in a gallon? For the peafowl or for the pheasants? I don't want to mix up 12.5 gallons to 25 gallons of the stuff, which would be the whole package, that would give me 400/800 mg, so can anyone tell me how much of the package to mix in a gallon of water to give them?

Ok, I'll do that with the neosporin and vet rx, so as of now, treat only the peafowl, not the pheasants....

or just treat with the Vet RX and watch the peafowl?

either way, I'm making lunch, with fresh eggs, egg salad sandwiches, :) and can someone tell me the dose if you know?

Candace, you can try the Duramycin, but if he gets worse you may have to run & get Tylan, that is what I have used for my birds for respiratory illness in the water.

Marc. I rote your number down yesterday morning and left it laying on the table. I intended to call you at Yates Center. It wasn't much of a sale. They probably didn't have a tenth as much as they normally do.

No problem. I had a great time seeing some of the other beasts up for sale - especially the Watusi and the Yak. Some nice goats as well. Anyways - if the good folks here could let me know the next poultry event within 100 miles that'd be great. We have cattle auctions here constantly but not much else.

Wow..we missed a lot of posts..
Missed Yates Center yesterday, but sounds like we really didn't miss much...we did go today though...arrived at 8:30....I expected a bigger selection...but there were a few cool things...and the peacocks were beautiful. D
They told me next Auction is May 5 - 6.
Stopped at Orschlein's on way home...they have some chicks...but are expecting more next week I think she said they arrive on Weds. Asst. of Bantams due 1st week of March.
We made progress on our brooder and now I got a question about our coop plan:

We are recycling our playground area with the playset into the coop and huge run....
How much sand do we need to put on top of the pea gravel? They can live on gravel right?
Advice needed...Thanks!

I heard there will be a big poultry show in Hutchinson at the Fairgrounds April 14th.

Sounds like it was an exciting and exhausting weekend for everyone!

I finally got to work outside today - it's absolutely gorgeous out there! I got the trellises build and added a hooped plastic enclosure to help the soil warm up some.

The PVC square frame has white netting on it, although you can't see very well.
I got the broccoli, onions, celery, and cabbage transplanted outside. They weren't doing very good inside at all.

I also got the nest box built from that shelving unit. Think it's funny that I have that done before the coop and chicks have arrived.
At least it's another thing to knock off the check list. I'll add a slanted roof when it's in the coop.

I also got a cat litter box tray of wheat grass started so I can give the new chicks some wheat grass to play in when they are a couple weeks old. Do any of you do this? If so, what do you use for dirt? I was afraid to use something like potting soil that had any additives like Miracle Grow in them. I did find some organic soil that had no additives, but was wondering if it wouldn't have just been better to try to dig some dirt outta my back yard instead.

Candance - The Duramycin-10 is the only antibiotic I have used for the chickens. It has always done fine for what I needed. I don't have peafowl though so I don;t know about them, I did use it for turkeys though. Glad you found the dosage. I know a lot of people go right to the tylan, and other stronger meds, but I prefer the Duramycin-10 to at least start with.
