Consolidated Kansas

On that "Cowboy Town" It is three pieces as I understand it, so moving it might not be too bad, but if anyone can shell out that kind of money, they can figure out a way to move it, LOL

Hawkeye- I so admire your ability to work with wood. You obviously know the basic plus a lot more. I only wish I could know how to and be able to do the things you do so easily.

Hi everyone! Looks like your all keeping busy.

Your coop is sure coming along Haweye! Good work just flat out going for it!

Here are some babies that started arriving two days early today.... (corturnix quail)

they are hanging in our quickie box brooder with winnie-the-pooh, compliments of my 6-year-old. LOL

Marty - those are just what I have been wanting. Are you open to some sales or trades? I will send you a PM

Hawkeye, do you go to Blair Doon vet clinic? My SIL tried to breed two of her horses last year and we were taking them there for ultrasounds. Unfortunately neither breeding took. On the one mare we weren't that surprised. She's been a great mom in the past but is getting up there in years now. But the other was only 7 so we were surprised she never took. We were actually taking her for the ultrasound to determine ovulation so we knew when to AI, and that's why it was all the more surprising it never took because three months in a row she was AI'd when we knew there were eggs and yet she never got preggers.

The horse in your avatar (I think you said that's your gelding?) is a dead ringer for one of the horses at our barn, only she's a mare. Every time I look at your avatar, I have to remind myself he's a gelding!

At our new property we're buying, one of our next door neighbors is a large animal vet!!! The seller said she's been real helpful to him in the past with all of their animals. We've already met her and she seems SUPER nice so we feel we really lucked out with neighbors. One of the other neighbors (not next door but two properties down) is the listing agent for the house so of course we've already met him too and he has bent over backwards to help get us info we needed, loaned us his Mule to drive round and do a fence check and so on.

Best part is, although there are no restrictions on keeping chickens there, I was still a little worried about alienating the neighbors by moving out there and immediately making our presence known with crowing roosters. I mean, even if its legal, it doesn't mean the neighbors are going to think kindly towards you if in the first few weeks you start disrupting their sleep, right? But when we were out there one afternoon looking at something, I was thrilled to hear a rooster crow. He crowed on and off the whole time we were there. The listing agent said "oh yes, the people next to me and the people across over there both keep chickens". So, since the neighbors are already used to the sound, hopefully they won't think dark thoughts about us when ours start LOL.

Well I am here after all. My Mom called and isn't well. I guess I should be going to church myself but after being out all day yesterday I am a hurting unit.
Chopper is sitting here on my lap and quacked to say "Hi and that he missed all of you yesterday". He sure was glad to see me when I got home yesterday. But there was evidence he had some play time with DH so she wasn't totally ignored. He just got to take a bath so he is primping.
I'm so anxious for Ivy to get her puppy. I hope she loves her. I think she is really a pretty little girl. Marshmallow isn't nursing them at all now. She runs in and takes a look to make sure they are alright, sleeps along side the kennel but she jumps and runs when the pups try to nurse. I think she is saying, "OK, I'm done with that. Their teeth are sharp!"
I sure hope it warms up like it's supposed to today and feels warm. I really want to get some work done.
I kind of have my materials list figured out for the chicken trailer. Hopefully we will get the stuff late tomorrow. Tuesday I have to get some blood work and physical to try to get some life insurance. Then Tuesday afternoon someone is coming out to give me an estimate on my building. Maybe later this week I'll actually get to start building.
I am really needing a quiet day today. I've been on the go way too much.

Got caught up on all the reading,

I didn't go to Yates Center either, but went with DH to Fort Scott to the cattle auction. We took 10 head of calves up there to sell, and ended up buying a bull to bring home for the herd of cattle we are going to be bringing here to the home place. Price's were insanely high, like almost 1000 dollars for a 500lb calf!!!!

Anyway hope ours bring those prices. So, now, "Its hi-ho,hi-ho, its off to milk I go!!!! Got a bottle calf, and five kids to feed milk from 1 nubian dairy goat. I wish all goats milk like she does!!

I got to go to yates, but man alive, stuff was picked through before 10! I am going to get there earlier next time....

Ok, everyone, I got a peacock question, I bought two yesterday, one is doing fine, but the other's eye is swollen on one side, he opens his mouth and stretches it, he doesn't seem to be feeling bad except for that. It is swolen enough to effect his vision, as hehad to turn his head the other way to see me.... I was wondering if he may have bopped himself. I don't want to stress him out more by messing with him, unless absolutely necessary; I'd love to give him settle in time. I can get a pic, it isn't swollen shut, but swollen. Maybe he bopped himself in the cage? Or getting tussled in transport to? Would you worry/do anything at this point?

Sounds like a cold. Get busy with that VetRx you bought and keep him/her separate from your other birds. Watch him carefully for other signs and symptoms. You don't want this spreading to your other birds. I noticed several birds with colds and such yesterday. It's been a very bad year for that. Good luck with him. Hopefully he'll get well and the virus will just run it's course. Is Kelsey building pens today?

Candace-there's no way to diagnose your peacock over the internet for sure, but it's very possible that it has mycoplasma. It would be best to isolate that bird right now until you know more. I believe mycoplasma starts with a respiratory thing. You might want to read up on mycoplasma in poultry and go from there. The yawning is most likely due to respiratory congestion, so you can treat that immediately.

I hope it's just from the stress of the move and that it did bump it's eye, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Yeah, I have them (the peacock and hen) separate, I'll read up on that, but I don't think it's a cold after watching him when I went to snap his pic, or respiratory, I've had birds where they have a repository before, congested and stuff, this is different. Anyway, when I was out there, I do think it's he hit his head on a piece of wire or something on the cage, it's like an abscess, he kept scratching it and mashed a little puss out of it...That's when I was thinking definitely abscess, the yawning is like he's trying to stretch it, if that describes it right, he'll yawn then scratch it...But there is nothing coming out his nose; but he is pushing some puss out when he scratches it and when he pushes against a wall.

I'll put some RX in his nose, but after seeing it again, I'm more certain it's an abscess. It looks more like an injury. Here is the pic, see what you think, but the other eye is totally normal, see here....there is like a tiny little hole where you see the pink spot up closer top his eye, as that's where the puss comes out of when he pushes on it.

Yeah, we started on pens last night and ran out of light, everyone stayed in their boxes until this morning except for the peacock and hen, they are together, she is fine and fit as a fiddle...

Oh, and Verna, Xena (that's her name now) she is now in with my pups, she decided Arabella was here surrogate mom, she was in tackling the 3 week old pups, making a couple of them mad!

Candace-The yawning and scratching sounds exactly like a respiratory thing. That is how a lot of this starts, then they develop abcesses from there. If it's an abcess it will probably have to be lanced and cultured to see just what you need to treat it.

Did you get one of Verna's pups? We are going to pick ours up tomorrow, and I can hardly wait!
