This stupid weather has me miserable. I ache and feel like doing nothing. I went out to feed but it was pouring down rain so I just did what I had to right now. I'll have to go finish later. I need to free up a couple of heat lamp holders. I need to move some chicks out to the brooder house. It stinks in here.
I just fired up a second GQF. I didn't have any room left in the one I had going. Wow! It's going to be crazy here when I really start hatching.
So this guy showed up to do the estimate and I didn't get it yet but he was talking April before he could do it. I can't wait that long. I am thinking I'm just going to have to build a new shed for the peacocks and forget about having something decent for the birds. Poop! Maybe I could find them some room in the chicken trailer if I plan right. I am pretty stubborn when I set my mind to something. I normally figure out a way to make it happen.
Draye, no never even heard of Sublette. Now IMO Arkansas is beautiful. My son and DIL lived at Ft.Smith for a while. It was such a beautiful area. I love the trees and the hills.
WELCOME!!!!!! So glad you're here! Ick, don't think I'm ready for another dust storm any time soon. There may be more people than you think that have chicken. It takes some time to find them. I run into people at the feed store. I'm also lucky-- most of my neighbors have chickens. We often have dueling roosters around here-- one crows and then you'll hear a faint crow from down the road and then another one across the road... It's pretty funny! I now have 3 crowing cockerels. (2 just found their voice)I live in Garden city and have pretty much all my life. The wind and dirt is unbelievable today. At certain times I can't even see 200 yards. Let me just say GROSS,!!
There are not many people that raise chicken out here at all.
Oh! I hatched what I believe is a melanistic chick. It is coal black. I believe it is a black ameraucana, but all of my black ameraucana chicks are black with white tummies. This one has shiny black fuzz, beak, legs, everything! I have never seen as chick as black as this thing. I'm going to post a pic of it... maybe tomorrow on the ameraucana breeders thread to see what some of the breeders think. In the meantime, it sure is easy to tell which one it is!
Finally got some pics loaded.i just got my laptop back from the shop and some of the programs were kind of messed up. I love my computer when it works, but when it doesn't I'd just about throw it through the window. Thank goodness Mike likes to fix the problems. Here is Brittany or Britt. I just love her "happy dog" face!![]()
.
Here she is with Mike. Notice his other best friend on his arm. That's Johnny.

Also why don't you take a picture of how you fix a spraddle with vet wrap. I tried and either it falls off or the chick can't stand up. I could learn from you.
I don't really have a spraddle issue in my hatcher but if they hatch early in one of my incubators they will spraddle because the floor is too slick in there. I have rubber shelf lining on the bottom to keep that from happening.
