Consolidated Kansas

I made cakes for my kids for every birthday and designed them to either represent what they were into at the time or a hint toward what they were getting for a gift. It was fun. I sure don't have time to do that stuff any more. I think the internet has ruined me!
I ship eggs off and on. I don't like selling them ebay because you have no control over how the postal service handles them or how good someone is at hatching. It's too chancy. I wouldnt; want to run my perfect feedback. If I ever get expanded and organized to where I can consistently offer some purebred eggs of different kinds I might set up a website. Most of what I ship is someone asks me if I have them and I send them some. I've sold some buttons and a few Seramas there but that's all I've tried.

Oh my gosh. Sheesh. What a night. Crazy weather!

Danz-I looked at the link Hawkeye posted on the splay legs. Yes, I use vet wrap like that. Much easier than bandaids, but I do it differently.

Cut the strip the width of the vetwrap. My vetwrap is 4". Cut the strip NARROWER than what they show.

I do not wrap the legs separately. I use one piece. It's easy. Wrap one leg first, then take the wrap over and around the other leg One time. You don't need to go round and round. Once around is enough. Space the leg the distance you want from the other leg and then pinch that vet wrap tight against itself and right up against the leg.

I'm out of time already. Have lots more I want to reply to, but I'll be back later.

Hawkeye, thanks! I know he's wanted them for years.. I wonder if they will give us eggs this year, or if moving them effects that?

Verna, doing computer work and look out to see Arabella leading Xena off down the road on the rounds, she's too little I say!
I snapped this an the most zoom I could do....

Then I walks to the end of the drive and hollered at her ARABELLA bring her back home
So she sighed, and brought her back. I jsut want Xena to have a few more days to get grounded! But Bella says shes ready! But she did bring her back to the barn....

Xena was just skipping along beside her, normally I don't make them bring them back, but let them teach them, but shes only been here 4 days!

OMG Candace.. that is the cutest thing that I've ever seen!! She's ready to start training her so she can retire! LOL :) These are times that I wish I had stuff like this to show the people who don't think that dogs are smart!

Candace, those are some priceless pictures! Yeah, I knew that Arabella is Lily & Jasmine's grandma, what a good mama she is too just taking in your new pup like that. It looks like she is going to get her training early. Too bad I couldn't borrow one of your dogs to train these two here. I'm sure they will be OK, but not having any older dogs to learn from they have to rely on instinct. They sure are growing right now, it seems like they doubled in size overnight. Hawkeye, it's not that much hamburger I'm feeding them at once & I'm mixing in rice or potatoes. I'm just trying to fatten them up a little so they can't get through those livestock panel squares & into my coop. I don't think they've been that interested in going in there the last couple days. I put the board back up there with only a very small opening in the corner for the chickens to use as a door. I think they have decided it might not be worth it to get stuck.

We just got tree limbs down here, it was a brief storm, I think we just got the edge of it. That's sad about Harveyville, there was quite a bit of damage in Missouri. A tornado went down the strip in Branson early this morning doing some damage. My DH is from Marshfield, MO which is northeast of Springfield for reference. He still has family there & a sister in Springfield.

Danz, I'm sorry about your baby ducks. They sound like little escape artists. Wow your breeder tractor sounds really nice, that will be great to have all that room to separate breeds & all. I'm itching to get mine started, but I don't have the money to start buying any wood yet. I don't know if my DH is going to help with that or not, we will see.

Cute picture Candace. I would definitely give her at least a week or two. She is awful young yet.
Hawkeye I forgot to answer you. I let eggs set between and 12 hours and let them come to room temp before putting them in the bater. I think 4 is probably enough unless they have been shook around a lot. You can probably tell by the condition of the box. I went out,fed the pups, and gathered duck eggs. It is really cold out there. I need to move some more babies to the brooder house but I hate to do it with the cool wind blowing.
Chopper is napping with 3 new baby ducks. She isn't real fond of them but is letting them cuddle with her. She had jumped out of her bin and was in eating cat food before 7am this morning. She came running when she heard me get up. I'm definitely going to have to work on some smaller duck diapers. It's pretty easy right now cause if she poos I just take some toilet paper and wipe it up but as she grows that could get out of hand in a hurry.
I would love to take her in to see my parents since they had to give up their pet duck. Chopper is much more friendly and people oriented than their duck was.

Candace: Oh my gosh: Loving your doggy pictures! Bella and Xena are just adorable! Bella must be a really great dog! We moved from the city not too long ago so, naturally, we have city sized, non-working, spoiled rotten, yappy Maltese and Lhasa dogs, that we love to pieces. My oldest son wants a GP but now is just not the time... maybe next year?

Didn't yet get those chickens out of my craft room. DH says tonight? I sure hope so, they are about to take over the world and sky in there!

Help me rhonda! (comes to mind everytime I check on them)

Hawkeye,
When I went to the U of A and picked up the eggs for the 4H kids last friday, Dr. Bramwell, told me, course they only had a 11/2 car ride, but he said"get them in the incubator, they are ready and it is of no use to let them set around any more". So that is what I did. Your eggs should arrive Thursday. They were beening held at about 55 degress. With as cool as it is, the temp should not make that much difference. It is how they have been handled that creates the problems.
Don't wash them or anything. Do you have any Tek-Trol? My youngest brother out by Garden City, his wife works at one of those HUGE pheasant farms. She gathers all the eggs, and puts them in the incubators and stuff. He told me to use the TEK-TROL, and spray the eggs with it. They do at the farm. With out it they do not have good hatches. With it the eggs hatch like popcorn. I didn't spray those eggs, felt like the shipping was going to be enough for the time being. I ordered this, it is sold by bio-tek out of Georgia. I am thinking that I got mine from Smith poultry supplies.

Very interesting! I just looked it up since I had not heard of it before. I'll probably let them warm up a bit for a couple of hours to get to room temperature and then I'll throw them in! '...tomorrow, tomorrow! I love ya, tomorrow! You're only a day aaaaa way!'

The fumes from all my cleaning today are getting to me.. It's still not as warm as I want it to be to go paint. Sigh. More laundry I suppose is in order.

Tek-Trol® Disinfectant is ideally suited for use as a spot disinfectant on clothing, shoes, new merchandise, etc. Fast drying and nonstaining, Tek-Trol® Aerosol eliminates man as a carrier of infectious disease.

Candace, that is a gorgeous series of pictures - what a great mentor Arabella will be for Xena.

Me too! I bought a children's cake book when DD was turning 3 and since then, the tradition has been that every year they can choose a cake out of the book and I'll do my darndest to reproduce it. The only stipulation is that they can't choose something we've had before. That book is getting pretty torn up by now and has had cake batter and frosting spilled on it countless times, but the kids still pore over it every year in the weeks prior to their birthday, trying to decide what that year's cake will be.

Very interesting. I had never heard of Tek-Trol before - thanks for looking it up Hawkeye. I might have to try that next time I'm incubating.

So with all this talk of GP's specifically and LGD's in general, I have a question for those who have them as working dogs. Is it better to have them in pairs? The reason I ask is I currently have two mid-size rescue dogs and at our new place only 3 dogs are allowed. Since we will have more predators out there than we do in town, I can't help thinking a LGD would be good to have around but wasn't sure if they work well on their own? It seems like dogs are kind of pack animals and prefer the company of their own kind so I'm going to guess that its better to have more than one but thought I'd ask.
