Yeah, if I thought we were going to stay in the house, I would have put my foot down and we would have had some kind of solid flooring down there with throw rugs. I'm not just a carpet person at all. We have no carpet upstairs-- but you've been in my house. I just want to do whatever will make this house sell ASAP. I LOVE the chicken hat! Totally worth the money she is asking! I can knit it myself, or save myself the trouble and have her do it for me! ha! I love the eggs hanging down, that is adorable! I'm probably going to order one once I get settled down with our chaos of the house stuff. Be sure to remind us of where the link is later on! I'm going to add it to my favorite stores right now.. I love Etsy!Hawkeye I think I would have opted for an engineered wood cause it is safe on concrete and sub level areas, then thrown a couple of area rugs down. You get the best of both worlds that way. But that is just me. Tile is wonderful but it's too cold on a sub-level floor.
I got up at 4:30 after being up till midnight and I am still working. I just had to take a small break. Then I leave again by 6:45 AM to go back to the auction. Hawkeye I delivered birds for the auction this morning. The turkeys and doves are sold to a private party who is going to pick them up there. No I didn't get a great price because he is a breeder but it gets me down by about 14 birds.
I wanted to share with all of you a link to Etsy and the hat my daughter made for me.
Yeah, it would be nice if we get to stay and enjoy all the hard work! I love everything we are doing. Glad your got your coops in order. I had no idea that today was supposed to be so miserably cold again. I HATE winter!!! ARGH, I'm over it.Oh Nooooooooooooo! I just zapped my message! Well, it'll have to be the condensed version and I'm very sorry for the ones I won't remember.
pikeman, that naughty broody! I raised her better than that!![]()
danz, I hope you make it through all these long hours without getting sick. That's what happens to me when I over do.
hawkeye, sounds like you've got your hands really full! It will be so nice once it's all done and I so hope you end up staying. Carpeting in the basement is nice on the feet.
trish44, you and I were both cleaning out our coops today! DH took me to a Dr appointment today, that went much better than expected, and after eating out and stopping at Walmart I finally made it home. I quickly rallied the troops (our kids) and we got 'er done in a hurry!I am so serious though, those kids can move! After finding mites, treating all the birds and then powdering everything, all I could think about was getting all the old shavings out of there. It was due anyway, but I just hate mites. They are so sneaky! We took one of the banks of nest boxes out too, so it made it a bit roomier. We put PDZ down on the bare concrete (wish I had dirt) then put all new wood shavings down and topped it all off with Sevin! Done and done. Feels great! I'm so glad your DH enjoyed feeding the little goat! That's nice.![]()
Agreed on all above--- and yes, I was excited about getting my first chickens, too! I think everyone was!Oh I was very eeeekity eek!Yay for pics and congrats! So much fun!![]()
Hawkeye is just remodeling right now and hoping she won't have to move. If she does, the house will be ready to sell.![]()
Agree-- when there are just no signs to go off of, then I think it's best to wait and see what happens next. There are times when you just KNOW something is wrong, and other times when it could be about anything. I don't mess around with obvious respiratory symptoms like congestion or runny nose, etc. But what you described just seemed like it didn't fit anything. I think your conclusion is probably correct about her. Hope you got enough sleep! I am just not sleeping at all lately. I am a mess!Oh & Hawkeye that hen seems fine now, I watched her all day today & she was no longer gasping & just ranged around with all the rest of them like nothing ever happened. My conclusion is that she just inhaled too much ammonia from the dirty shavings & after she got fresh air it cleared it out. Sometimes it just pays to wait & watch for a bit, I'm glad I didn't jump to start them all on an antibiotic right off. Anyway, now they have a clean coop with fresh shavings & it should be good for another 6 months. I have a couple of other pens that need to be cleaned out next that haven't been cleaned all winter, so that will be for another day. I'm so tired tonight I couldn't even make it to the grocery store, my body just gave out & told me I had done enough for today. I could barely make it into the house after all the bird & animal chores & my back is hurting so bad now & my hands too. I'm so glad to have that big job done now though, it's a really big relief. Oh & I took down some of my tarps on the sides of the run & one of the pens today. I have more to take down another day.
I had thought it was supposed to be colder tomorrow, but it looks like they pushed it back to Sunday now & 50% chance of rain that day. So maybe tomorrow will be a good day for doing the shopping since I need a day to recover from all I did today. I don't think I could do that again tomorrow if I wanted to.
Those millie fleur colors are just amazing! I love it! The silkies are cute, too! The beak looks right on these guys, they should look something like a polish beak when they are hatched. Great pictures! Thanks for sharing!
I still have not finished my fox scarf! I got caught up in house stuff! I keep dragging it every where I go in case I get some down time and I will crochet. I need to take a break at some point and head to the coffee shop and get a couple hours work done on it. I'd probably get it done, it doesn't have much more to go on it.Danz, I forgot to mention the hat! We all need one of those and then one of Hawkeye's fox scarves! LOL! That hat is funny. Hope she sells lots!
Trish, It would have taken me forever to get my coop done. With 7 kids, who know what they're doing working along with me that project got done in a hurry. It would be different if they were whining and dragging their feet but they don't waste any time and I'm really blessed to have some wonderful kids who understand and embrace what I'm doing with the birds. My oldest was at his second day on his new job, so he didn't help this time around. It's so odd he's old enough to have a job! Anyway, I don't know how you do it all, either. You and Danz are marvels.
maidenwolf, such beautiful birds! I am so envious of your green grass. Maybe with a bit more rain we'll begin to green up a bit more around here!
Congrats on your first chicks!!! Isn't it great?? Just wait until you start Danzsizing!Super cute hat and model.
Thanks Michelle, Everyone says this granddaughter is the most like me of all. She has the blonde curly hair and blue eyes. Both of my daughters have dark hair and brown eyes.

Eeeekity eek!! Was anyone else so happy when they finally got them?
I will post coop and chicky pics tomorrow!!
Danz, that hat is adorable, she should be able to sell those really well. Can she put an ad on the Buy, Sell, Trade on here? Well at least you sold 14 birds, that is 14 less to feed.
I never thought of that. She doesn't have chickens because she lives in Evergreen, Co and they have bears and foxes all the time and chickens don't have a chance. I guess I could advertise for her.
Oh my, I ache from end to end. Out in the cold all day long from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM and I of course looked at the the temperature forecast instead of factoring in that cold wind!!! I absolutely did not have enough warm clothes on. I hope I don't end up sick.Getting ready for DD's birthday supper! Today's weather is unacceptable. Just enough already.
I second that!!!
I had to pick up our two shop kitties from the vet this morning -- got their shots and neutered. Poor babies. Anyway, had to be done and they really do bounce back rather quickly. Then another Atwoods run for more wood shavings. I underestimated yesterday and I really dislike going back the very next day but there you go.
Now they can live without being miserably torn by hormones!! I sometimes think I should have been neutered!
This afternoon I gave Jorgie a bath and haircut. I always try to do that while DH is at work because he sympathizes so with Jorgie's every whimper and Jorgie picks up on that and gets all fake frantic and just behaves very badly. DH called and said he was going to have to work late so I thought,, but I could get the grooming done. I plunged in and who do you suppose came home in the middle of the haircut? DH, aka, Mr. Sympathy. Jorgie had been doing really well, but once DH walked through the door, easy street was all over with. I was determined to finish, lest naughty dog think that would effect the length of his groom time but it was an absolute job every step of the way. He's just a little Maltese, you wouldn't think it could be any sort of a thing to groom him. I always plan to do two of the Maltese in one afternoon and have yet to accomplish it.![]()
Oh what Drama! I guess he must be doing well since his surgery then!
I gave the chicks some buttermilk today as a little protein/probiotic boost to maybe help a little with the weather change. I have them in separate brooders so the smaller chicks won't get stomped by those Frank Reese bruisers!
