Had a day out a new part of the yard for the bantams

Here is the handsome D'ulandsk roo

and one of the pullets

And silkie baby cuteness,, they have bigger crests now, I need to get a newer pic.. :)

Maidenwolf the d'ulandsk look great. If it weren't for the feathered legs and a little muff feather you would swear they were just plain olandsk.
I am up and going again. I will be so glad when I get home tonight and won't have to worry about another Gardner auction until fall. Love it and hate it all the same. It is going to be a huge auction. I just hope I get a decent price out of my birds. I haven't been able to get hold of the guy that is supposed to take my turkeys today and it makes me a nervous wreck. Those guys are beating themselves to death in that cage and I don't want them there all day. If I had had one more big plastic dog kennel it would have been so much better. I had to put them in a metal kennel.
I've got to jump in the shower in a minute and get back on the road again. I don't expect to be back before late tonight.
By the way, my second little midget white turkey pulled right out of it and is running around fine. I guess it just took him a while to get his legs working right. Woot! Just another case of my overreacting and worrying about my babies.
The forecast for here today stinks. It is actually getting colder as the day goes on and it is supposed to rain this afternoon. I hate wasting the day yesterday sitting in line to be off loaded for hours when I could have been at home getting work done. Sure hope it pays me to have taken them. I did see they have some welded wire and that was what I wanted. I bought some last year for about half of store price. This is all new stuff too. I think it is overstock or manufacturer seconds, but it will work beautifully. They had some short stuff as well so if it goes cheap enough I plan to buy some of that to put up a new goose pen.
Well gotta go get moving. Have a great day.

Danz, I forgot to mention the hat! We all need one of those and then one of Hawkeye's fox scarves! LOL! That hat is funny. Hope she sells lots!

Trish, It would have taken me forever to get my coop done. With 7 kids, who know what they're doing working along with me that project got done in a hurry. It would be different if they were whining and dragging their feet but they don't waste any time and I'm really blessed to have some wonderful kids who understand and embrace what I'm doing with the birds. My oldest was at his second day on his new job, so he didn't help this time around. It's so odd he's old enough to have a job! Anyway, I don't know how you do it all, either. You and Danz are marvels.

maidenwolf, such beautiful birds! I am so envious of your green grass. Maybe with a bit more rain we'll begin to green up a bit more around here!

Well Karen you just do what you have to do, but let me tell you I was dragging my butt last night & I was even in bed already when my DH came home from work. He knows I'm either sick or I have overdone it & am exhausted if I'm in bed when he gets here. I was asleep shortly after he got home. He got up early & went to some storm chaser lecture this morning, but there was no way I could get up that early today. It took me awhile to be able to even move & then it was slowly. I'm really sore today from doing all that.

It's really cold & windy here today, that wind isn't nice at all. I had to go out & let me birds out & feed my little bottle baby & I was glad to get back in, a big change from yesterday when I was sweating. Tomorrow is going to be even colder & it looks like it's not going to be a great week next week, the end of the week there are 3 really cold days. Ugh, I'm so ready for the cold to be done.

Danz, I hope you sell all your birds at a good price & get a good deal on some fence, that would be nice.

Well you all enjoy the day & try not to blow away.

Hawkeye I think I would have opted for an engineered wood cause it is safe on concrete and sub level areas, then thrown a couple of area rugs down. You get the best of both worlds that way. But that is just me. Tile is wonderful but it's too cold on a sub-level floor.
I got up at 4:30 after being up till midnight and I am still working. I just had to take a small break. Then I leave again by 6:45 AM to go back to the auction. Hawkeye I delivered birds for the auction this morning. The turkeys and doves are sold to a private party who is going to pick them up there. No I didn't get a great price because he is a breeder but it gets me down by about 14 birds.
I wanted to share with all of you a link to Etsy and the hat my daughter made for me.
Yeah, if I thought we were going to stay in the house, I would have put my foot down and we would have had some kind of solid flooring down there with throw rugs. I'm not just a carpet person at all. We have no carpet upstairs-- but you've been in my house. I just want to do whatever will make this house sell ASAP. I LOVE the chicken hat! Totally worth the money she is asking! I can knit it myself, or save myself the trouble and have her do it for me! ha! I love the eggs hanging down, that is adorable! I'm probably going to order one once I get settled down with our chaos of the house stuff. Be sure to remind us of where the link is later on! I'm going to add it to my favorite stores right now.. I love Etsy!

Oh Nooooooooooooo! I just zapped my message! Well, it'll have to be the condensed version and I'm very sorry for the ones I won't remember.

pikeman, that naughty broody! I raised her better than that!

danz, I hope you make it through all these long hours without getting sick. That's what happens to me when I over do.

hawkeye, sounds like you've got your hands really full! It will be so nice once it's all done and I so hope you end up staying. Carpeting in the basement is nice on the feet.

trish44, you and I were both cleaning out our coops today! DH took me to a Dr appointment today, that went much better than expected, and after eating out and stopping at Walmart I finally made it home. I quickly rallied the troops (our kids) and we got 'er done in a hurry!
big_smile.png
I am so serious though, those kids can move! After finding mites, treating all the birds and then powdering everything, all I could think about was getting all the old shavings out of there. It was due anyway, but I just hate mites. They are so sneaky! We took one of the banks of nest boxes out too, so it made it a bit roomier. We put PDZ down on the bare concrete (wish I had dirt) then put all new wood shavings down and topped it all off with Sevin! Done and done. Feels great! I'm so glad your DH enjoyed feeding the little goat! That's nice.
Yeah, it would be nice if we get to stay and enjoy all the hard work! I love everything we are doing. Glad your got your coops in order. I had no idea that today was supposed to be so miserably cold again. I HATE winter!!! ARGH, I'm over it.

Oh I was very eeeekity eek!
big_smile.png
Yay for pics and congrats! So much fun!

Hawkeye is just remodeling right now and hoping she won't have to move. If she does, the house will be ready to sell.
sad.png
Agreed on all above--- and yes, I was excited about getting my first chickens, too! I think everyone was!

Oh & Hawkeye that hen seems fine now, I watched her all day today & she was no longer gasping & just ranged around with all the rest of them like nothing ever happened. My conclusion is that she just inhaled too much ammonia from the dirty shavings & after she got fresh air it cleared it out. Sometimes it just pays to wait & watch for a bit, I'm glad I didn't jump to start them all on an antibiotic right off. Anyway, now they have a clean coop with fresh shavings & it should be good for another 6 months. I have a couple of other pens that need to be cleaned out next that haven't been cleaned all winter, so that will be for another day. I'm so tired tonight I couldn't even make it to the grocery store, my body just gave out & told me I had done enough for today. I could barely make it into the house after all the bird & animal chores & my back is hurting so bad now & my hands too. I'm so glad to have that big job done now though, it's a really big relief. Oh & I took down some of my tarps on the sides of the run & one of the pens today. I have more to take down another day.

I had thought it was supposed to be colder tomorrow, but it looks like they pushed it back to Sunday now & 50% chance of rain that day. So maybe tomorrow will be a good day for doing the shopping since I need a day to recover from all I did today. I don't think I could do that again tomorrow if I wanted to.
Agree-- when there are just no signs to go off of, then I think it's best to wait and see what happens next. There are times when you just KNOW something is wrong, and other times when it could be about anything. I don't mess around with obvious respiratory symptoms like congestion or runny nose, etc. But what you described just seemed like it didn't fit anything. I think your conclusion is probably correct about her. Hope you got enough sleep! I am just not sleeping at all lately. I am a mess!

Those millie fleur colors are just amazing! I love it! The silkies are cute, too! The beak looks right on these guys, they should look something like a polish beak when they are hatched. Great pictures! Thanks for sharing!

I still have not finished my fox scarf! I got caught up in house stuff! I keep dragging it every where I go in case I get some down time and I will crochet. I need to take a break at some point and head to the coffee shop and get a couple hours work done on it. I'd probably get it done, it doesn't have much more to go on it.

Trish-- I'm with you girl!! I'm not loving this cold and I don't envy you bottle feeding a baby out in it. :( I just hate this weather.

So we moved furniture all day and still have a lot more to go. We have more people coming over tomorrow to help us. My DH is all about "doing it ourselves" but after all of this, he said if we move, we are hiring it done for us!! This is just ridiculous!

Getting ready for DD's birthday supper! Today's weather is unacceptable. Just enough already.

I had to pick up our two shop kitties from the vet this morning -- got their shots and neutered. Poor babies. Anyway, had to be done and they really do bounce back rather quickly. Then another Atwoods run for more wood shavings. I underestimated yesterday and I really dislike going back the very next day but there you go.

This afternoon I gave Jorgie a bath and haircut. I always try to do that while DH is at work because he sympathizes so with Jorgie's every whimper and Jorgie picks up on that and gets all fake frantic and just behaves very badly. DH called and said he was going to have to work late so I thought,
sad.png
, but I could get the grooming done. I plunged in and who do you suppose came home in the middle of the haircut? DH, aka, Mr. Sympathy. Jorgie had been doing really well, but once DH walked through the door, easy street was all over with. I was determined to finish, lest naughty dog think that would effect the length of his groom time but it was an absolute job every step of the way. He's just a little Maltese, you wouldn't think it could be any sort of a thing to groom him. I always plan to do two of the Maltese in one afternoon and have yet to accomplish it.

I gave the chicks some buttermilk today as a little protein/probiotic boost to maybe help a little with the weather change. I have them in separate brooders so the smaller chicks won't get stomped by those Frank Reese bruisers!

Super cute hat and model.

Thanks Michelle, Everyone says this granddaughter is the most like me of all. She has the blonde curly hair and blue eyes. Both of my daughters have dark hair and brown eyes.

Eeeekity eek!! Was anyone else so happy when they finally got them?
I will post coop and chicky pics tomorrow!!

Danz, that hat is adorable, she should be able to sell those really well. Can she put an ad on the Buy, Sell, Trade on here? Well at least you sold 14 birds, that is 14 less to feed.
I never thought of that. She doesn't have chickens because she lives in Evergreen, Co and they have bears and foxes all the time and chickens don't have a chance. I guess I could advertise for her.

Getting ready for DD's birthday supper! Today's weather is unacceptable. Just enough already.
I second that!!!

Now they can live without being miserably torn by hormones!! I sometimes think I should have been neutered!

Oh what Drama! I guess he must be doing well since his surgery then!

Oh my, I ache from end to end. Out in the cold all day long from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM and I of course looked at the the temperature forecast instead of factoring in that cold wind!!! I absolutely did not have enough warm clothes on. I hope I don't end up sick.
It was a terribly long day and I wouldn't be surprised if the sale wasn't still going on. Probably 75% of the crowd had left before they got to my geese. But I did okay. I didn't get as much as I expected before hand, but got way more than I expected that late in the day. I also got the Eastern turkeys and the diamond doves sold to the guy first thing so I did okay.
I spent WAY more money than I intended but I got a wonderful deal. I bought 9 100 foot rolls of 5 foot welded wire. I should have enough welded wire to build all the rest of the pens I will ever need. I was going to buy some 4' tall wire and it was dirt cheap but I had already bought so much 5 foot I knew I was pushing the odds of ever getting it in the truck with the camper on top. I wasn't going to buy but 4 rolls of the 5 foot but the last 5 rolls were sold as a group and went even cheaper....so I suckered and won therm. I would have waited but every time I wait hoping the bid will go lower someone takes it all and I miss out. Plus I bought two cages of birds that had to be fit in, plus my big dog kennel that I brought the turkeys in. I was told there was no way I would get it all in there but I did. It about killed me lifting those rolls and getting them stacked in there but leaving enough room for the two cages of birds. They were not small cages at all.
So I did sell 4 turkeys, 10 diamond doves and 3 Sabastopol and just came home with 6 other birds. Unfortunately they were not at all cheap but they were so worth what I paid for them. I got two trios of exhibition orps from Indiana. With the ones I recently got from Missouri I have more blood lines and some awesome birds. These were only 8 months old and they do come to my knees already.
Woot!
Karen you reminded me I need to run back out in the cold and make sure the brooder house is warm enough. I moved some more babies out there yesterday afternoon plus my Frank Reese birds are out there. I asked DH to feed birds today so I haven't been out.
Trish I hope you are feeling okay today. I have a feeling the way I feel just getting out of bed in the morning is going to be a chore.

Jeannie, I have a spot for another lavender roo. I'd like to know where yours came from, I'm trying to be sure I don't have inbreeding. I have a roo from Josie that is with my buff orps, I don't want to move him because they're just such a pleasant group. I have some girls from Danz but they're still tiny, I will want another boy for them.

Chookschick, I love reading your posts. Thanks for the survey form, I didn't fill it out just because it's unlikely I will get to come. It seems I always have to wait to see how things play out.

I felt a bit jealous hearing about everyone getting together to work, I so wish I could go help. I love to work, my kids love to work. I definitely missed out on the fun.

Danz, I promise you will be less one puppy tomorrow. :)

Hawkeye, my dd is wanting to breed silkies too. She just lost her 1 splash silkie a couple of days ago. It was the one that was so sick and we worked so hard to get it better. It seems it may have had some type of head injury. It was laying on it's stomach with it's neck twisted so it was looking straight up. We tried to give her some time, but when she stopped eating we knew it was time to say goodbye. It was a hard day for sure. Anyway, she'd love to have a few more. PM me, I'm ready to buy. She won't ever do anything big and I don't know enough about them to make a good decision but I trust you.

OMGosh Trish, those goats are soooo precious. I so want goats, but I'm just going to have to admire yours from a distance. They're adorable.

tazcat, my brooder room was made from a storage room. We used the shelving to make brooders and it's working out great. We painted the inside with a glossy paint and laid linoleum on the bottom and up the sides a few inches. It cleans quite easily. We used old refrigerator wire shelves as the doors, they're working great too. I have tons of chicks out there right now.

It's cold here again and now I see lightning. I'm going to go check on the older chicks that are outside. The kids and I have still been working for a local dog breeder and today we brought home a tiny pup that needs to be hand fed. It's probably not a week old yet. I thought it would be a great time to catch up on reading, I think it will be easier to stay up until it's time to feed the pup rather than to just all asleep and have to wake to feed him. This way I will get a better stretch of sleep time. Tomorrow will be a big day, we get to go pick up our new pup.

Hope everyone is warm and dry.

It was wonderful to sleep in a while this morning. In fact I made myself stay in bed another hour just because I could!!! Maybe I'll finally get my hours adjusted to daylight savings time after getting up so early the last several days.
I have tons to do today. I always have more on those rare occasions when I leave DH to feed. I have days and days of filth and dust in here that needs cleaned up too but it probably isn't going to happen in one day. It will be so nice to get the dust from the doves gone eventually.
However I cranked up another incubator this morning so I could start hatching ducks. Those are the worst of the worst for producing chick dust and fuzz. I wish I had gotten my back porch built so I could move the incubators out there like I had hoped this fall. Since I had to pay for a car though I have no money to do it now.
Hopefully I'll be able to start selling some chicks soon and make some money on the side to help with some of this expense.
I'm afraid I am going to have to sacrifice my hoop coop when it's done to house the exhibition orpingtons. Maybe at some point I'll get the second double hoop built and can move orps to each side of it. I've got to get some things done soon though because when I start hatching ducks the pen the lavender guineas are in is where I raise baby ducks. I normally sell ducklings by this time of year but it's been so cold I haven't been able to keep up with the eggs as well.
I certainly didn't get potatoes planted yesterday! I haven't even bought any seed potatoes or seen any in the stores I've been to yet. I asked DH to get the tiller back on the tractor but it hasn't happened yet.
I just realized other than not having pens ready I am loving the direction I am headed in birds. I love these big fancy exhibition type birds and the fancy kinds. Even if I have a limited market on who will spend the money for them I totally love the size, quality, and rarity of them.
I can't wait for all of them to grow and start producing.
I am so over this cold weather though. When on earth is it going to stop!!!

I know I may have time to catch up with this board this week :). Just wanted to hop on first and ask who here may have chicks for sale- I can drive this week to get some:) I want to go see Danz and hope she has just one pup left for Sera to hug.... She was in the hospital for over a week with an unknown infection..... My oldest has surgery on Wednesday to remove tonsils which have been infected all winter and ruptured a few weeks ago, additional to keeping her from eating anything except a liquid diet..... I am ready for chicken therapy on my week off for Spring Break, since playing catch up from all the kid surgery, Sera had one in February, and hospitalization really had me behind...... :)

I can't wait to sit here in a few hours and just read! Right now I have 4 extra kids here for a sleep over! Never a dull moment here!! I hope all are well!!! I have missed you :)
