Sounds like a very looooong day. Just an FYI about your chicks... I recently let out some of my barred rock chicks where the adults had been. They all came down with coccidiosis. It didn't even occur to me at the time that that would happen, because I still thought I was feeding medicated chick starter. (which I discovered I'd bought the wrong bag and didn't notice). I had one chick die right away. So be on the alert for lazy, tired, fluffed up chicks. They won't poop blood right away. That happens right at the end. Fortunately, I keep a big bottle of Corid on hand at all times. I thought for sure that all of them would die, but they rebounded very quickly. Corid needs to be run for a full 5-7 days in the water IF they have contracted it from the ground/dirt. If you stop too soon, it comes right back. I know this from experience.
