Consolidated Kansas

I went out and have spent the afternoon working on the trailer. I had to take down 2 walls that had paneling on the outside, then sheetrock, then insulation, then more sheetrock. What a mess! I got those all torn down then started unhooking pipes and wire so I could get the heater out of there. I had to get DH to help me when it came time to move that monster. He had to remove a stud from the wall I took down and then actually dropped the heater cause it was too heavy. Together we got it out of there and got it loaded on the truck. Then I finished tearing up the carpeting etc that was on the floor. I have to patch a big hole in the floor where the ducts were hooked to and then close off the rest of the ducts. I had purchased a new electrical box for the trailer and now I have a couple less wires to hook up. Getting that heater out gave me a lot more room in that part so I am thinking of making a smaller run there where the heater was or just a separate pen using the left over stud wall.
I got some of the birds watered but still have about half the pens to go yet.
I came in for a little while to cool off but better get back out there.
I forgot and had to add this. Here is a picture of my newest peachick. Honestly I had just changed that water about an hour earlier. They sure do make a mess of it.

Wow, it sounds like you've been busy Danz. I didn't get that much accomplished outside it's just too hot today. I went around & fixed some feed troughs & nest boxes that needed to be fixed, added fresh straw to the main coop nest boxes, & put some bedding in the duck pen & then I had to come in to cool off. That is a cute little peachick, I just love those little things & the sound they make.

I have never heard of that breed and I did a google search for it and it came up with nothing.  My guess is that this is either someone who has mutts and is trying to give them a name to market them, or the seller just plain got the name wrong.  You might ask them for pics, or more information on what breeds make up the Highland Brown, in order to decide on suitability.
mabye she means hyline browns the production birds

So i got a message about the picnic to let danz know what chics any one wanted but i never heard what chics you or any one else had so tell me please i may have missed it if you posted what babies any one had for sale to pick up at the dinner/lunch thing

I'll send you a PM cleansquared. Hi-line browns were produced after the Highlands. Still if people don't know what they have it would make me wonder about them.
I came back in to get a drink. I still have to finish feeding and clean up some more of my mess I made in the trailer. I had the doors propped open so it wasn't so bad out there with the wind blowing. None of the windows work. They either are screwed down or the cranks are broken. I need to find some old trailer windows and replace some of those so I can get some air through there.
DH is trying to engineer a panel so we can build the new turkey pen in panels. I got my check from HOAGBA today so I feel pretty good about my sales even though I lost money on some stuff. That will help pay for some of that wood I just bought for fencing.
I still have an incubator full of chicks I need to get out yet. It will have to wait until evening I guess.

Danz, if you can find someone who is scrapping an old trailer that would be good. I did find some used trailer crank out windows used that I have used on my coops, I love them. I still haven't gotten the last one put in my main coop yet. I was waiting till it gets cooler to go out there to work on it because it gets so hot in that coop. It sure would help if I could get it put in though. I'm glad you got your check, that always helps. I need to come up with two more panels to make another pen myself. I have two end panels from a dog run that need repair, which I can do because I have some chain link fencing, but I will need to either make or find two more side panels. I could use that pen for another breed. I have some fencing left, but I don't know if I have enough now that I built the duck pen with it. I need to find some more of that fencing, it sure comes in handy.

There is a bunch of 8 ' chainlink on craigs list under materials i think sek areas you would have to buy poles and the lines to strip them together depending on how big length sides you wanted it said 10-20' lengths make offer

I wish I could find someone who had an old trailer they were scrapping. Unfortunately most people sell these parts and ask a fortune for them. Used to be I'd see old trailers falling to the ground here and there. I did check one place I saw some and some one had broken all the windows out of it. Figures. I like the old crank windows cause they help keep out the weather but I haven't found any. Maybe someday. I have a couple of slider windows in the front part but I can't figure out how they would have had screens. The screens are long gone on all the windows. I could go buy new cranks but that would cost a fortune and a lot of these windows would leak. I got a few to work and they don;t seal up right so I ended up screwing them back down.
This was an office trailer and I am sure they kept the heat and air on and didn't want construction dust in, so they just fastened the windows down.
I think I would be far better off to build a poultry building but I bought this thing thinking I could save money. I should at least use it while I can until it falls to the ground. I told DH numerous times if I could just move the walls and roof and put it on a concrete slab it would be perfect. No way to do that though.
I've got to go out of town today for a while. Then rush back and get some eggs and couple roosters ready for one of my customers. I sure hope DH doesn't let the boys out of the pen before I get back. They're broody raised roosters and they'd be impossible to catch otherwise.
My splash English pullet died last night. It just really upset me. I was going to do a necropsy on her if she died but I was so depressed about loosing her I just didn't bother. I really should to see if I can figure out what went wrong.
Guess I'd better get around and get in the shower.

Sorry about your pullet Danz. If you are anything like me, it doesn't matter how many birds we have, it is still upsetting to lose one especially when we don't know the cause.

Next time you are down in the Wichita area you might try the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. You never know what you'll find there but they have a lot of old building materials at reasonable prices.
