Sharol you worry so much. I would think your chicks would be old enough to integrate with the bigger birds. They aren't so small at this point where they can't at least run away from an older bird if they decide to pick on them a little. I think Copper will do her best to defend them as well.
I was so busy the last couple days I really haven't had time to post. It's raining off and on today so I am taking a little time to relax.
I had a big hatch day. I hatched about 28 turkey poults. I'm not getting eggs now cause the girls are all wanting to be broody. I keep adding nesting areas but last night I had 5 hens on one nest. They are stating to break eggs so I am just going to have to take the eggs I guess. Any that survived should be well started. I hate to do that to the hens but too many birds on too few eggs just doesn't work.
I hatched a ton of chicks. I didn't even count them. I'm sure there must be at least 100 of them again. The one thing I didn't hatch many of was barred rocks and I needed several to fill an order this weekend. I only had two eggs in that hatch. I had gotten rid of my excess hens and only kept the two best Reese ones and it must have been about that time period when I was waiting for eggs again. I wasn't hatching any that came from the entire group.
I have someone coming for birds tomorrow and I'm thrilled. It should free up some more pen space. I need to make a list of what all he was interested in and the prices I quoted. I really am not sure how much he is going to take.
I added some metal roofing to the little barrel houses last night that the young Araucanas are using to hopefully keep some of the rain out. They keep sleeping outside so I hope they decided to go in during the rain. I'll have to get out and check them later.
I hatched dozen Sebbie babies but lost the same amount that never pipped. My incubator is really acting up. I think I need to move it around and maybe even buy a new thermostat for that one. It worked perfectly before and this one is only a few years old. I'd like to install an digital thermostat to it if I can because they are so much more dependable. Probably not as long a life but they adjust for the temperature of the room a lot better. Of course that is money I don't have to spare right now.
HEChicken I was wanting to plant some more things yesterday but didn't have time. Nothing has come up yet because we haven't had any rain other than a few sprinkles that just evaporate. Today it is raining though so I wish I had gotten more seeds planted. Now it will probably keep raining and be way too wet to get out there. My lousy luck.
I built a ramp for the little coop that DH built last night but didn't get it mounted. I got a few bales of straw which are now wet, so hopefully when it stops raining I can move another breeding group of birds in there.
