Consolidated Kansas

We got a dusting of snow and a little ice but not much else. I actually was disappointed in the lack of snow, but glad we didn't get much ice.

Count your blessings. It was so slick here yesterday it took me three times as long to do my chores. Very trecherous. Then we got more snow during the night and early this morning. I guess if I had nothing to do but look at it it would be okay. But it doesn't take long for these geese, ducks and dogs to destroy track it up.

It was still really slick here yesterday as well. I had to do chores early since we had to go to Wichita & I had to put my cleats on my boots to keep some traction. It still makes me really nervous, I just don't need to be falling right now.

I had hoped I would be seeing more sun today, it was supposed to be sunny & warm up but so far it's mostly still cloudy, darn.

It was much sunnier here today and got a degree or so above freezing. Worst part is all that ice and snow was partially melting and it is a slick mess out there. Britt keeps moving a few pups at a time so she only has to nurse 2-3 without all of them piling on. She had taken 3 pups to the barn yesterday. I went out and was carrying them back and stepped on an area I though wouldn't have much water under it. I was wrong. It was about 6 inches deep and the ice broke. I fell through and was soaked from head to foot including filling one of my boots with water!!! I managed to keep the puppies dry but that was all. Needless to say I rushed to the house to get rid of the wet clothes.
Today it is slick out there but also extremely muddy. We need a good warm south wind to dry some of this stuff up.

It was still pretty cold here yesterday with the cloud cover. I changed out all of the water & that takes quite awhile with no hoses out in the winter. I hadn't put my boots on & my feet were pretty cold by the time I got water & feeding done. I hope it gets a bit warmer here today, at least we have sun today.

Happy New Year everyone!

I got the Christmas tree down this morning. I still have a few other decorations to take down but I am tired now. I need to get out and care for the animals. Looks like the sun is shining well.
It's supposed to be much warmer this weekend. I am so happy. This cold has been the worst!

Thank you all I took the chicken to my vet who immediately said she is suffering and put her down. We then did a necroposy and discovered that she had tried to eat a string and it had gotten caught in her crop to her gizzard. Other then that my vet said the chicken was pristine and would have lived easily to 8 yrs.

I"m so sorry :( At least you know she was healthy and not contageous to your other birds.

Actually, that is probably better news than it could have been. If it had been a nasty respiratory virus, well, that would have been much worse. I'm sorry you lost her.

I had a hen that ate a plastic strip that had been used around a roll of carpet. It went through her, but never exited. A few months later she died. Not sure it was connected because we didn't do a necropsy (always regretted that), but she never had laid an egg.
