Wow I knew it got HOT Sunday, but not 110 with a heat index of 118! Then I just read about all the Turkeys that died here in Kansas from the heat. Sad Sad Sad

It's really bad. I can't tell you how terrible the losses are if they can't find a way to cool off. It's a terrible thing.

and its funny =- there is plenty of water in the coop - so i think he just wasnt drinking as much as he should wonder if it was hard for him to drink with that beak - but he was also a little stupid - so who knows - i just pray it wasnt something contagious - but the thers all look good

in this heat i go out every morning - for 22 chickens (and one small dog) they have 2 huge bowls of water - a gallon waterer - and a small kiddie pool that i fill about 1/2 way (so the dumber ones dont drown) lol

the upside to the pool is it is in the shade - and the sides stay cool - i make sure i water that area pretty good so they have some cool areas - they are a bit muddy in the morning but by 1/2 day - its just a little damp - they seem to appreciate it


does anyone know where in wichita to get DE? I got some last year and don't remember where i got it - its supposed to be good for my garden too... so i need to find it again

the girls get a treat today - going to let them into the garden for awhile - at least the parts that are heavy with grasshoppers - harvested what was left of my broccoli after they got done with it - so hoping the girls enjoy it!

and they get their coop cleaned up and cleared out a bit - woohoooo
