Welcome to the newcomers. We are really happy to have some new people. There's a great group here with a wealth of knowledge.
Chooks is our resident authority on lots of chick matters. She's got tons of experience and probably been here longer than the rest of us. She's always a great source for information. but the combined group is an asset. Each of us have our knowledge base to help you with any problems or just be a sounding board.
Bamaproud, you sound like me. I have no idea how many birds I have, and the only time I count is when I am selling a large amount of them. Just the same I love them all.
Seramaslovers, yes I have Seramas. Tons of them. I would be more than happy to sell you one or many. CHEAP What color and what sex was your daughter's pet? I have lots of colors, lots of sizes and even have chicks every now and then. I'm trying not to hatch but once in a while I can't resist throwing a few eggs in the incubator. I'm not super close to Wichita. I was just there last week. I would of course like you and your daughter to come up and pick out her own bird but if you PM me we might be able to work something out. Hawkeye lives outside of Wichita so maybe you two could take a day trip together or something. We can work something out.
Rittert, can your wife get unemployment until one of you finds a job? You have the worst luck.
Justin, That sounds like a nice deal but is the guy with the pasture going to provide the fencing etc. I would be super worried about predators. Do you have a guard dog or something to protect the birds? I don't mean to rain on your parade. It's just that with all the dry weather the predators have been worse this year than ever. There just isn't much food for them. Would the birds have a coop for night protection and to lay in? Is there electricity available so you can keep a water source from freezing? I'm a worrier by nature so I tend to worry for everyone else. My chickens free range so I am a total advocate of it but they are right here where my dogs and myself can watch out for them. There is just so many things to consider.
