Consolidated Kansas

My stuff isn't posting right either. I sent that last post 30 minutes ago and it just now showed up. Of course with the wind my internet is iffy today anyway.
Ivy just wanted to be sure you had something to breed with. Those 'babies' I have in the brooder are laying. Geez! I swear they aren't old enough. I've not gotten any response from stuff I've put on the poultry swap. I hate to go back to posting on Craigslist. I get so many bogus calls and calls from out of state. I really don't have time to spend on the phone answering questions from peopel who just want someone to chat to. I've had several of those. They are clueless and have no intention of buying anything.
I can't believe you got all doelings. Any triplets I ever had were 2 boys and one girl. And all the twins I had were one of each or both boys.
Hawkeye the gal that sells on BYC is the one I bought my duck diapers from before. It's a design that needs work. I think it would work much better for a chicken. But she was quick and inexpensive comparably. The other gal you mentioned was awfully pricey back when I checked her site.
I need to go back out and bring my hen in. I noticed while ago she is in the corner of the cage. Also where she pooped on me it looks a little blood tinged. I'm afraid seeing that ther emigh tbe some internal damage so she may not make it. Makes me feel so angry.
I took the two baby ducks out to the duck pen and have had to chase one of them down twice now. The stupid little thing keeps climbing out and following chickens.
I also noticed a couple more of my big free range ducks have eye infections. I guess I'm going to have to find a way to pen them up so I can get them cleared up. I already have one with the baby ducks that is totally blind because they get in the nasty culvert water.

Man I was just outside and it is getting cold. It was pretty nice for most of the day other than the wind. So here went anothe rdya I got nothing I intended to do finished.

Ivy - congrats on the triplets. And all doelings - that is wonderful.

Danz - so sorry about your hen. I really hope she pulls through, but the blood in the stool would worry me too.

Danz,it was really nice meeting you and looking at your birds. The pup did just fine on the trip home and is settling in now. She got to see her sister Britt and visited for a while.Sorry to hear about the birds.

Ivy, I want first chance on the doeling if you decide to sell. Guess who fell in love with them and wants them?LOL

Hawkeye,I will get pictures after the pups has time to settle in.

Prayers for all those sick . Wishing a speedy recovering!

Danz, I am SO sorry, that is heartbreaking~ :(
Ivy those babies are adorable! Love love love the Nubian ears.
Trish, I treasure my hubby daily! He is a doll.
Oh, he said with the skinning of the chickens it's like any other animal, I said, well, we don't all know how to skin and animals....and he laughed and said Oh. Like you.
Then he said what you do is after gutting one, cut the skin up the leg thigh into the buttocks area, peal it off to that area, then in one motion it will pretty much just peel off to the neck.

Danz, I'm so sorry about your chickens.

IVY, those are some cute babies! I like the momma too, she's pretty. I'm not wanting milk goats, but those are cute. My friend who rescues all kinds of animals was supposed to get two baby boer goats today that are bottle babies, both does. I told her to feed them & get them to eating stage & I'll see if I can talk my DH into getting them. I want some for keeping the brush down where we don't mow. I haven't been able to convince him yet that we should get the goats, he's still debating on it because of the expense of putting up a fence & something else for someone to care for when we go out of town.

Candace, I never thought of skinning a chicken like that, how did he come up with that idea?

Well I got two more cages put together & stacked in the garage ready for my new rabbits. I still have one more cage to assemble, but I need legs & a tray for it yet. I got tired after wrestling with those two cages to get them put up there on top & getting the animals all fed & watered then getting the little hen in the garage moved to a bigger crate in the chicken run. She seems fine now, so I decided to put her in a crate in the run so the other chickens could see her & she could see them so they could get acquainted for awhile first. I'll probably leave her in there until next week some time & if everything is going OK I will let her out. I also went in the coop this afternoon & turned over all the shavings so they could get dried out. I plan to clean it all out soon, just not until it's going to stay a little warmer & It's not raining. It has worked very well to do the deep litter method this winter, so I think that's the way to go. I don't have tile or linoleum in my coop, I just painted my floor with primer & then outdoor semi-gloss paint, so it was coated well. The shavings have dried really well with turning them over at regular intervals, so the floor has not gotten wet unless I spilled water filling the waterer. I plan to move that back out to the run as soon as I'm sure it's not going to freeze any more.

Danz, I just told my DH we need to go to Missouri this weekend so I can get my rabbits. He's getting used to me I think finally springing this stuff on him. This was just too good of a deal to pass up though. I know the lady will hold the rabbits for me if we can't go this weekend, but I also know she is wanting the cage space. I really want to go get them, I can't wait to see them all & get them home, I'm so excited! I will have 5 cute baby rabbits to look at, they're 2 weeks old now.

Trish, I just asked him and he said I got tired of plucking the ____ bleep

.... lol what they call a female dog.. He's silly...But he did say he actually does it before he guts them, but you can do it either way, before or after.

Danz: I'm so sorry to hear about your chickens. That's so sad. The wind can sure do weird things but that's just ridiculous!

Tweety: Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate your directness. I had started a small orchardhere but the trees are in bad shape from having renters in the property when we moved back to Wichita. I'm hoping they will make a come back with better care but I lost 7 out of 15 trees. Sigh. I'm starting some seeds this week too for the garden. I'm with you: nothing tastes better than fresh fruits and vegies! I bet you are enjoying your babies, ducks and chicks, tonight! They are adorable and I'm so happy for you that the wait for the chicks is over.

Candace: I have Speckled Sussex, too! I've named one Sweetpea because she loves attention and is a real up close and personal kind of chick. She's certainly claimed a retirement home here with me! I got my chicks 4 weeks ago tomorrow and WOW what a difference a month makes! I loved the photo of your chicks following your DH. That's just cute. This is my first time raising chicks and I have approx 100 birds. I love having them.

cherwill and Hawkeye: Dale the Whale was very friendly tonight -- hoping for another spa day I think!

Ivy: I love the color on that mama goat! and those babies are too precious. How in the world did she have room for 3 in there?

I want one! I'm adding goats to my list with Great Pyr and rabbits! Oh yeah and a miniature cow -- ha! My five acres is shrinking rapidly!

Trish44: How many rabbits do you have now? I'm glad you found the kind you were looking for.

To everyone else: I especially appreciated reading everyone's comments today. It's so nice to find like-minded people.
I hope this post shows up. I've been having trouble posting yesterday and today. Things that make you go hmm.
