WHOA! Gone for a weekend and 70+posts to catch up on. Forgive me if I miss anyone!
Josie- that is a birch in the picture with the planter. It likes water, so we planted it near the hydrant and it has grown like crazy.
Pike-The coop plan looks nice and well thought out. I agree with Hawkeye and I think I would go a little bigger.
Danz-Hurray on the peacock pen, and gggggrrrrrr that the hen escaped. She is used to staying in the horse trailer. You might try leaving that open near the other peacocks to see if she comes back to it. I think the tomato plant for your dad is a good idea. My dad is in assisted living and that is what he does. Just that little thing is a big thing to him.
Prairie-
Sounds like you are not too far from Danz.
HEChicken-Frontline for people?
hhhmmmm.... actually, that might not be a bad idea! I hate those darn things! The peacock is BEAUTIFUL!
RVRoman-Congrats on making it through a tough semester. The garden coop looks great!
Sharol-Keep up posted about your BIL. My word! That is awful!
Trish-on the wheatens, the roosters will definitly darken up more and quicker than the hens. You will know for sure which is which fairly early as they feather out.
I had a busy weekend. We were on the road all weekend it seems. Oldest son graduated from KSU Saturday, then DH picked up a new buck at Chanute and we went on to Columbus to spend Mother's Day with my sis, Checoukan. Got home late. I'm beat. I just called to cancel my PT until tomorrow.
This tick thing is interesting. I've been outdoors all my life. Grew up on a farm, have hunted all my life and I've lost track of the number of times I've pulled a tick off myself, and several times they have been there for at least a day before I find them. I've never had any problems after being bit. I still despise the little boogers. Why is it some folks get so sick and some don't? Is it just luck or lack thereof? The tick lottery that you DON'T want to win? I wonder if they are worse this year due to the mild winter we had. I do think using some kind of repellent does help, and different ticks access you in different ways. I know when I am out in the woods often time they way they get on me is they drop or blow down off the trees. Others , like some of the teeny tiny ones crawl up onto your shoes and socks from the ground.
I we do treat our dogs and other animals for fleas and ticks. I think that helps as much as anything for keeping them controlled in the yard.
KAREN-OH! I want to come to your place on Wednesday, but I just don't think I could swing it. I'm clear up in the NE corner of Kansas, If I don't figure out a way to get there I'm going to be feeling sorry for myself and feeling very left out.
I hope everyone has a great time, though. There is such an active group down that direction I would love to meet everyone and put faces behind the names. I just don't think I can make it.
