Trish I use Wazine on my larger turkeys about once a month and have never had a problem with it. I worry about using it on much other than chickens and turkey because after calling the company I was told if it wasn't listed on the label, don't use it to worm with. I just used it on my chickens cause I didn't need eggs from those two groups for a couple weeks. I don't like it though. Anything that is hazardous to some of the birds around here worries me.
I've been moving eggs and birds. I had an eggplosion today. Gobs of the eggs I gathered from under broodies decided to hatch today.
I got my complete dozen of lemon cuckoos hatched. Now I'm going to be a nervous wreck. I set up a larger bin for them, the peacock, and my few little cornish chicks. Here's a picture which really doesn't show anything except how dirty they can get the place in 30 minutes or less. The peafowl is the largest. The ones showing wing feathers are the cornish and the others are my new cuckoos. I think I have at least one and maybe two other random chicks in there that were in the hatcher at the same time.

Patricia's husband just came and got two tiny white Serama roosters I hatched and raised for her. She is still on active duty for another month but her husband was gracious enough to come get them. I think they are going to be extra tiny birds. I think she will be happy with them.
And I finally got to shut down one of the GQFs again after months of use. I only have two and the hatcher going now. I could probably narrow it down to one if I didn't want to keep slightly different humidity levels.

Josie, I've had a couple of stuck chicks that had "rear" problems and it was partially leg issues, too. They don't seem to thrive and live. All of mine have died. If it's sticking out to the side, I'd try the bandaide. But if not, I just don't know what tell you. I bet Danz has a lot more experience with that. I've noticed that all of my stuck chicks seem to have something wrong with them. So it's probably just as well they died. I had a chick live for 2 days and die. I tried using a syringe and everything, but it just couldn't get up and it's legs were too weak. It wasn't spradle leg, either. Something else was just wrong with it. Yeah, I know, big help I am!

Anyone have horses? i found an old palomino mare about 12 yrs old that they are selling but from what i gathered she was rode rough by previous owners and will limp if she is ridden hard. she had a foal in june but it didn't make it. She is broke to ride and very gentle. They are selling her for 100.00 i would like to have her for my kids to ride what do you all think? im not experienced enough too know if something else is wrong
I have horses, and have grown up with them, and my parents had them growing up... we're a horsie family for sure. Here's the thing-- horses are going for DIRT CHEAP right now. No one can afford to feed them. I would NEVER buy a horse that has ring bone-- because from what you said, that is what she has. That is a progressive disease and it's going to get worse. I have a mare that just got ring bone 3 years ago. She broke a bone down in her hoof and despite the thousands of dollars we have put into her getting her set correctly and all the x-rays, and all the special shoeing and now trimming every 6 weeks.... it's still never going to go away. A horse like that will require a ferriar to come out and reset that hoof (and align that bone) every 6 weeks. Because if you don't, that horse will limp and go down. Not to mention, this *can* cause other systemic problems in the horse later on. Maybe not right now, because she's 12... but for sure, you're going to dump a load of money down that horse. My recommendation is to call your ferriar and ask him if he knows of any good (SOUND) horses for sale. He's probably going to know of several right off the top of his head. Then, because he shoes them, or trims them, he's going to know if they have any issues. If you don't already have a ferriar, call around to a couple and tell them you are looking for a sound horse that is well broke for kids. My advice on this horse--- run like heck and don't even look back. Someone else can go spend 1K a year on foot bills. Unfortunately, I'm one of those idiots-- but only because I already had my horse and I've had her since I was a kid and this was a surprise injury. And not to mention, we can afford it. (right now, anyway) BTW, if you are even still thinking that it might sound doable on the cost--- then remember you'll still be spending $50 a week on grain, another $500 on hay for the year and about $150 on yearly vaccines, and then any other injury that comes up. Oh and they will hurt themselves. Especially when your car decides to break down, or you have some other unforseen expense... then they'll decide to stab themselves in the eye with a piece of hay! LOL!! That has happened to me so many times...

So point is-- start out with a PERFECTLY healthy horse. And as my ferriar says--- no feet, NO horse.

Hawkeye you just summed up exactly why I don't have horses. I just can't afford them. I still want a tiny mini though just to have around the place for fun. But I've resisted every time I could buy one really cheap. Not sure if that will last or not!
DH is out putting some homemade metal posts in my temporary goose pen. Those little devils have just started walking right over the top of the orange safety fence. I just ordered 2 rolls of electric poultry netting for them but heaven knows when it will get here. The good stuff is very pricy. I could care less if the geese want to roam around the yard but until it is fenced I'm afraid something might happen to them. They are my pride and joy! I spend more time laughing at those silly characters than not. I wonder sometimes what I entertained myself with before I got birds.

I GOT MY FIRST EGG THIS MORNING!!!

Dunno who laid it, but of all things, I found it on the patio under the misters.. LOL! So excited! I guess its time to switch from the grower food to the layer food! :) (Think that will be ok for the silkies who aren't laying and 6 weeks behind?)

Congratulations! Its really a little early for the silkies to be on layer food so I would just keep them on the grower and add a little container of oyster shell for calcium on the side. The hens who are near laying will start to take that as needed. You can keep that regimen up indefinitely, but once the silkies are of laying age, the next time you need feed, go ahead and get the layer feed.

Hawkeye- That chick has a slipped achilles tendon! I found a post with a pic of it, it is in theory fixable by putting the tendon back in place but it is so swollen that it is hard to feel right now so I have it wrapped in hopes that it will bring the swelling down enough that maybe I can feel the tendon slide back into place. Here is a bad pic of it. Its leg is sticking out to the front and side. It looks like it is doing the hokey pokey, you put your left leg in...

The peachicks! One is hiding behind the 3 in the front. They did not like being photographed!

Broody cochin momma with her proud clutch of babies including freshly inserted silkies out of the bator!

Silkies fresh out the bator. Haven't gotten anymore pics because they all race under their surrogate momma! The one with the bad leg is in front and wasn't that bad yesterday but is having a lot more trouble today. Hopefully we can get it all fixed up, poor bugger.

LOL! Horses are fun when they are healthy! :) I think a mini would be adorable! I wonder where you'd find it a little bitty winter coat, though? Maybe a sheep coat?! I'm interested in this netting-- did you buy the expensive stuff or something cheaper? I'd be interested in the "cheaper".

Hope that will settle your geese right down.

OH poor baby!! And it's a Blue!!! Oh, I LOVE blue!!! Or I suppose it could be a black-- did you order these or are they your own? I don't have any black. So technically, I should say I have BS colors... Bwahahahahaha!!
lau.gif
Next year I want to order a dozen of pure black eggs and see what I get. Looks like you are going to have a bunch of splash. The one on the far right is dark-- could be a light blue? So fun to see them grow out!! I'm glad you got it figured out. Can you put a bit of an ice pack on it? Like that gel stuff? I have these mini packs for small injuries-- they have them in the baby section in WalMart. Maybe you could hold him down on the pack for a bit now and then and see if it goes down and then try to massage it back in? Poor thing, I hope you get him fixed up! I wouldn't have guessed that. I know I haven't had that issue before. Mine have all had other problems and were not eating either. Love the peas!!! So cute! They look like they're saying "Wha, what?!" BTW-- what is the black chick in the feed bowl in front of the broody? That's not a silkie, is it??

Here is the picture of my rescue pheasant can anyone tell me anything about it and if anyone can or knows anyone who would want it I would appreciate any help.
