Construction of "The Pantry". Another Wacky Coop. (Pic Heavy)

LOVE the coop so far! I agree with everyone else that mixed up coloring would look great. We have a guy that makes children playhouses down the road that are wacky like this. He does the house all in one color (usually lime green or bright purple) and then different colors around every window and door, the window boxes and the door itself are all different coloring. It looks really neat! He then puts in plexiglass for windows and puts a design (like stained glass) on the window. Not sure if he paints it on or what, but it is very neat! The last one I saw done must have been custom as the "stained glass" was the little girls name. Wish I had photos to post of it. Following your progress on this coop is almost as exciting as if it were in my own yard! Cannot wait to see it finished. Its great that you can also use reclaimed items to make the coop so its not only cheap for you, but friendlier to the environment as well. Cannot wait for the next set of photos!

Sorry for the delay in updates, unfortunately work has gotten in the way of my chicken addiction. I will be posting pictures tomorrow.

Well I have finally had a chance to get back to working on the coop this week. Dodged rain drops on Monday and Tuesday but today was able to get some uninterupted work done. I did get underneath the coop secured and built on Labor Day. This was needed because the girls were causing quite a commotion in the house during the day. Needless to say they loved being moved outside. I still am bringing them in at night till I get the upper all lock, stock, and barrel.

This is the backside of the coop it swings up so I can access their food and water.

This is the side that will open up to the run eventually. As you can see I overlapped the wire to prevent digging underneath. When the run is completed this door will be left open for them to go in and out as they please.

The inspector checking for functionality of the door for the occupants.

Underneath there is a roost for them to relax on. Natural Elm of course!

Having completed this on Labor Day bought me some time to complete the upper area while I have been very busy with work lately.

Next up was the exterior walls.

One last inspection prior to beginning. Lemon(bottom left) is really giving it the once over!

I had to add some supports for anchoring the hardware cloth. This was done on all for sides for venting on the walls and the soffit as well.

Hardware cloth, OSB and windows installed. The wall on the left will also be getting nesting boxes installed below the vent area. Also the pop door will be installed between the windows that will lead to the run.

A usual I had constant inspections on all facets of construction. Burrito is making sure I have measured twice before I cut once!

This is obviously the Human door. Hopefully the door will be done tomorrow

Paprika is checking the supply of screws and doing a tool inventory before locking up for the evening. Having nothing square has definitely added some time to the build, but I think it's coming along pretty good so far. I still have a lot of work to do but at least there is progress being made. My goal is to get the electric, camera prewire and water run out by the weekend and have the interior completed so the girls can be full time outside residents. Then I will move on to trimming the outside. Hopefully more updates coming very soon.

If you guys or gals see anything that I need to change I would love to have your input. I have given alot of thought to this coop but it is still my first and I'm sure I will make some mistakes along the way.
